Notification Helper Virus

I keep seeing this pop up on the bottom right corner of my screen for a "Notification Helper" and Google search shows it a virus. I tried a couple of tricks to get rid of it (not downloading any adware removers) but it didn't seem to work.

I check my Control Panel a few times and it's not the list of installed programs, which would make it easier to uninstall.

Can anyone help me out? I have Windows 7 Home on a Dell computer. Thanks!

Removing these annoyances requires you to d/l some removal tools as these PIA's tend to latch onto your system & don't like to be removed.

Notification Helper is a malicious website which is used by cyber criminals to promote their remote support services. The Notification Helper bogus pop-up ad will state that you computer is infected and that you need to call their paid support service to remove the infection. This is a bogus claim, and an attempt to make you pay $199 for their “services”.

Have a look at the following page & d/l the recommended removal software. Malwarebytes & AdwCleaner should be able to clean it up for you.

NOTE: When finished installing Malwarebytes, uncheck the box marked "Start free trial" & then launch it & do a full system scan after updating the definitions.

I agree with my fellow dragon, (love zok lol) with the use of MBAM and Adwarecleaner, they are both fantastic tools.

Adwarecleaner should find the registry entries that this bug usually adds, but from reading about this virus and other like it they are usually located in

Malwarebytes should locate the hidden files (which can be viewed via folder options,) I forget off hand where, but most likely in program files and system 32, but you might want to to search for any keyword "helper" just to be safe.

Also, this may be a good time to learn and embrace the power of System Imaging and here if things go haywire now or in the future. I backup generally weekly, as if malware managed to get on my system, I'd just revert back to the previous image, as some varieties of malware may not be fully removed when you remove them. I don't take chances with removal, I just nuke em

Also, be sure to create a restore point before tampering with any of the above suggestions, always a good idea to have an immediate backup in case you delete something

Another program (FREE) that I have had great success with lately finding the malware that seem to hide in the system , is Herd protect . the program scans your files with 68 malware scanners . I like the program .

The tricks I used were ones I found by Googling them. I downloaded AdwCleaner and it removed some. Then I used Herd Protect. That seem to do the trick.

I didn't want to download Adware remover that I found online because I didn't know if they were good or not. Thanks to all of you, I'm pretty sure that this "Notification Helper" is gone, along with other stuff I didn't know I had.

I'll let you know in a few days if everything's good or not. Thank you for all of your help, it's appreciated.

That is good you don't download things you don't know anything about.
