Don't forget to try the suggestions in post #20 by torchwood. You might be able to get your money back.

Final post :

The old laptop is now running Windows 10 and remarkably it has never been better.

After all the probs with win 7 and my Softwaregeeks I bit the bullet and allowed a local engineer to look at my PC.

Fifty well spent pounds later I now have a proper copy of Win10 and a much improved lappy.

I bought 3 codes from the same guys in the UK.
I am a little concerned because I bought mine for 20 GBP each, which is $40CAD or $30USD EACH.
I hope SoftwareGeeks are legit. Looks like they are not. I bought mine on Feb. 25 2016 with a credit card.

No Windows 7 COA key are legally sold by them selves.

Your installation of Windows 7 on that computer is counterfeit.

I hope to get a problem free installation when the time comes. Looks like its a risky gamble.

I bought them on a credit card, so its been 5.5 months now. I will have to read up on the refund policy of Visa.

To know for sure I could just try to install one W7 on my current Vista system and if its a no-go, contact Visa.
