NVIDIA Driver - Convert from Desktop to Mobile (Laptop)

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ5VWN/X with a GO7200 After I had installed Win7 I had the same problem only standard vga and therefore a reduced desktop. I have followed your tutorial and lo it now says i have a NVIDIA Geforce 210 with chipset Go 7400. and my desktop has now resized to fill the screen. Thank you for the tutorial.
I then went to run the exe to gat the contreol and I went to C:\Nvidea and clicked on setup.exe and I got the reonse that there were no graphics cards that matched in my computer.ny help would be appreciated. Is there something a I have obviously missed? Thanks

Hi. Very glad the driver installed well for you since Sony or NVIDIA do not offer any Windows 7 graphics solution for Vaio.

Possibly, you didn't miss anything about the NVIDIA Control Panel being installed. I do not own a laptop so I can not test. There most likely is way to get it installed if you try different things.

I am not completely sure the tutorial is correct in this aspect. Has anyone been able to install the Control Panel? If so, how?

Hey torrentg... I had run into the same problem as falconsrest, except that im using a sony vaio VGC-LT23E all-in-one PC with the GeForce 8400M GT...

I realized that I had the same "hardware ids" as the first guy you helped out in another forum... so i just downloaded and used the 'NV_DISP.inf' you made for that set, and it worked wonders... :D

Afterwards though, when I would run the setup.exe in C:\NVIDIA\... I would get the same error sign as falconsrest... Than i decided to start running all the '.exe' files in the same folder individually (except for the uninstall.exe of corse) and It worked somewhat...

I got the nvidia console to install in my control panel (and works fine), but there is a problem with nvidia PhysX... when I open it from the control panel... Under the 'info' tab, it says no physx processor installed... and under another tab it says no accelerator detected, and all the selections are grayed out...

Regardless, the aero effects work great now (Windows 7 experience index = "5.1"... v.s. the "1" that it was before I ran into ur forum)... it is my dad's PC, so its not like hes going to be playing video games or anything on it... but the one thing that might bother him later is that the max resolution is only 1680x1050... I dont remember exactly how much it was when it had vista installed on it, but it seemed to be better than what it is now...
under 'device manager>>Monitor' --> it says 'Generic PnP Monitor'... I looked up drivers for my, or any Sony monitors and found nothing... Than I came across a program called 'PowerStrip' which lets you CREATE a monitor driver with the max resolution and everything, i guess??

I havnt used it yet, I wanted to hear what you, and everyone else, had to say first...

And before I go, I have to add... torrentg... for helping all of us out with this mobile graphic card issue... im sure everyone can agree with me when I say that YOU ARE THE MAN!!

Cheers torrentg...

...SAM... i am

I Used latest version of mobillitymodder (did not work)
Then I Disabled X64 driver signing (http://www.killertechtips.com/2009/05/05/disable-driver-signing-windows-7/)
After that i editted the inf file but when i started de nvidia installer it will install something and then says that there where no drivers installed.
When i do it manually it says that the driver is not for my graphics card.

So still no working drivers
I have an acer 7520 with the Geforce8400m G (nog Gs or GT as stated by acer in some ads )

Hi. Rar or zip the .inf you edited and attach to a post using the paperclip. I'll have a look at it.

Okay so what is the difference between doing this yourself or downloading drivers off of laptopvideo2go?

None, except that this always is guaranteed to use latest driver because you download it yourself from NVIDIA - and also it's here because 9 out of 10 users claim they can't get the NVIDIA modder to work - when it actually works well and user error in the process causes issues.

Hi,

I know its been a while since my last post but I never did fix my problm. I ended up switching over to my lesser intel graphics card since my computer has both. But i just found a website offering vista 64 bit drivers for sony vaio. It fixed my graphics card and my camera and microphone problem. I thought it might be of help to any vaio users out there. Heres the website. Just agree find your driver you need find your computer download and extract. Then update in device manager. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the tutorial, I finally got the laptop card recognised and working.

Just for reference I have the "NVIDIA GeForce 8400M" and found there was two lines in the NV_DISP.inffile that contained the string "NVIDIA_DEV.0421.01" so changed the four references (two per line) to read "NVIDIA_DEV.0426.01". I also had to add the "VEN_10DE&DEV...." part to the end of both lines.

Hope this makes sense and helps anybody else who is having problems. I also got the NVidia control panel working. And as a warning if you get it working and the screen seems dark then it is because Windows has activated power saving mode for some strange reason.

Thanks for tutorial and good luck to others!

I am confused on where to download the latest drivers for Windows 7. After that, how do I extract the installer to C:/NVIDIA? After that, how do I open NV_DISP.inf in notepad? Or where do I find that? Thanks, as you can tell im not great wit PC's and laptops.

You would run the installer, then cancel it when it extracts the file or extract with universal extractor, and then right-click the .inf choose open with notepad and make sure the box to associate notepad with .inf is not selected unless you want it too.

Great help. One last question

torrentg, Terrific outline for steps to take to overcome geforce go 7400.

Question on line 10 of your steps. You specify "right click on standard vga in device manager. Click update driver..." Is there a reason to update the standard vga if in the device manager the geforce go 7400 is identified. Would the 7400 not be the one to click on to update driver? Thanks.
