It's possible that a heat sink clip has broken and allowing a gap between the GPU and heatsink:huh:. You can try to fix that if that is what's wrong....or just replace the card

If the fan is working and the Heatsink is clean, and its still overheating even with extra cooling then something is way wrong with the card. If its still under warranty, return it, if its not I would consider replacing it. An overheat event can damage the card and lead to more overheat events. You can get into a condition known as thermal runaway. How long have you had this card?

It might be time to consider replacing it. My guess is the built in fan isn't running at full speed and blowing enough air to keep it cool. If its like mine it has a shroud over the Heatsink to help direct airflow from the built in fan. That shroud will also block any air being blown onto the card externally. The only air that gets to the Heatsink is what gets in through the fan opening. Thats likely why your added fan didn't help. Your link to the picture of that fan didn't work by the way.

Would it bee a thermal past problem? Should he replace it and see if that is better? Or is that just for cpu's.

What speed is you graphics card fan set at? Mine is 60% and wont go any higher leaving my gpu to go to 65c depending on what game i play in 3d lol.

I love my gaming rig, FreeCell and Solitaire never looked so good.
If you can get the heatsink off without breaking anything you may be able to apply new past. That is if it is past, sometimes they use thermal pads, and you can't always swap past for pads if you damage one talking things apart. I'd want to know if the fan is up to speed before I start taking things apart.
