Hi All,

I have a user who is using Win 7 and office 2003. She wishes to be able to open .xlsx files that are sent to her, so I installed the office compatibility pack.

However this does not seem to solve her problem, the machine in connected to a domain and the conversion process works fine on my account but on hers it does not ( even if I give her the same rights as me on the network and the PC)

I am assuming there must be some small security setting somewhere on the PC what would mean the conversion process works for me but not for her, but for the life of me I cannot find anything that would cause such an issue.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Does the user have all the updates? I have Office 2003 (Professional) and the compatibility pack add-on. I get updates for both Office 2003 and 2010.

Am I right in thinking you are referring to updates that will come with windows updates? If this is the case then yes she does. However surely she has the same updates as me as we are using the same pc??

I have solved the issue.

I looked and it occurred to me that even though I was opening the document in excel it wasn't calling the converter. If you save on of the files to desktop and right click it...select open with... then browse... navigate to C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/ Office12/Moc.exe

Get the xlsx file to open using this exe (it is the exe that is the actual converter) this will then open the files within excel after converting them. Leave this exe as the default way to open that file type and then it works with them all....
