I am having a problem with saving edited files back to a homegroup server from office 2007. Other applications can open files, edit them, and save them in place in the same shared folder, and I can edit the document in word, save it to the desktop, and over-write the original on the network share with the edited version, so it is not a simple permissions problem. I have confimed that my user does have write access to the files in question.

The setup goes like this: I have a laptop (win7 ultimate 32). Using homegroups and libraries features, two folders from the desktop (win7 enterprise 64) are shared with the laptop, and set as the documents libraries. Offline files are enabled on those folders on the laptop side, to cache those directories for use away from home.

If I open a document in word, edit it, and try to save it in place, I get this error:

"There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost"

followed by a truncated file path back to the network server. using the ctrl+shift+i keybinding, it reveals error code 200932.

If I open the same document in another program, I can edit it, and save it, without issue. If I open the document in word, edit it, and save it to the desktop, I can drag it over and over-write the original. The problem is only with word trying to write directly to the file share.

The problem persists whether I am connected to the LAN or editing the files offline for later syncronization.

I am out of ideas. The save to desktop method is a workaround, but it's messy and creates multiple instances of the same file name, which could cause me to lose changes in the future.
