office 2007 SP2 update but i have office 2010

i have got office 2010 pro plus but i have just got a windows update for office 2007 SP2

im guessing it isnt right so should i just hide the update or install it?
i havent got it on any other pc's with win7+office 2010 just the one i use most often

I would probably hide it

Unless you have anything left over from 2007, Project or Visio for example.

it could also have been triggered by an add-on designed for 2007 that's reporting incorrectly

i dont think i have anything left from office 2007 although i did have 2007 pro+ on there before going to 2010 beta and finally going to the final version

Technically, applying the update should just throw an exception stating does not apply to your system, but hiding is often the best way as it has no potential side effects

I have just hid the SP2 update and now there is the office 2007SP1 update i guess i should hide that 1 as well right?

You stated you used to have Office 2007. Chances are that a few registry entries or files got left behind when it was removed, resulting in Windows Update mistakenly thinking you still had it.

some security some other stuff

is there anyway to stop them or do i just keep hiding them?

Since this is an ongoing problem, here is what I recommend. Uninstall Office 2010. Go to the link below and go to the fix it for me section. It should remove any Office 2007 files, filders and registry keys. Then reinstall 2010.

How to manually uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature

So did Paul try this and stop the reminders?

I have Office 2010 Professional and NEVER had Office 2007 installed and I started getting numerous updates yesterday on my laptop. I am reluctant to try the uninstall unless I know it is the recommended course from Microsoft. I have notified Microsoft about this issue.

FWIW: Most times the others are correct in that you probably have some vestiges of 2007 laying around
or lurking around

To keep from worrying about the updates, just let them install, if they are not necessary, the system
will let you know and you don't have to worry about hiding updates.
They can't hurt your system. He says with a grin but seriously, most likely it should be fine.

Guys I have this problem also just these days (feb 2012) its a w7 x64 install with office pro plus 2010 and NEVER had 2007 on this machine. Windows update started offering me updates for office 2007 THIS WEEK, at first i tried to install, but they wont install, WU goes through all the steps, downloads, installs and on next reboot offers the SAME updates AGAIN. I ended hiding both till this morning when it Offers me ANOTHER office 2007 update!!! So: 1- I never had 2007 2- this system is working ok and updating ok for at least a year 3- ¿MAYEBE WUPDATE has gone bonkers????????? IDEAS?
