I got a copy of Office 2007 Ultimate from The Ultimate Steal which worked fine on XP and Vista 32-bit.

I try running the installer on Win7 64-bit but get the error "The installation of this package failed". The file is X12-30307.exe.

I try extracting it via cmd: X12-30307.exe /extract:Office2007. This works fine. I then run the setup file in the extracted folder and it starts fine (I can see it in the Task Manager) but it closes after a few seconds. I have tried running the file in compatibility mode but no luck.

Has anyone had the same issues or know why it doesn't work?

THanks.

I've had Office 07 Ultimate (from MSDN) installed on my Win7 systems for a long time now.
Have you checked the condition of teh CD/DVD?
Have you tried copying the CD/DVD to your desktop?
Have you tried running the installer in Compatibility Mode for ALL USERS using "Run as Windows Vista" and "Run as adminstrator"?

Been running it on multiple versions and multiple machines here with absolutely no issues. Sounds like a corrupt installation file. Boot up XP mode and try it there (without activating it of course).

Hi
I had this trouble when I tried to run the install by mounting the ISO as a virtual DVD. My copy was from Technet.

Burning the ISO to a real DVD and installing from that cured the problem -- not sure why but it did. I've often run stuff from a Virtual DVD without any problems. - I use UltraISO for the virtual drive mounter.

I'm not trying to find out what was wrong with installing from a Virtual DVD - if a get around works thats fine by me.

I'll leave "Monday Morning Quarterbacking" as I think they say in the U.S to others.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies

I ended up re-installing 32-bit 7 and it installs fine. I havn't noticed any difference in performance, and ran Super-PI which gave the same results.

Thanks.
