I recently received a DVD with Office 2010 (Office14), supposed to be 64 bit.

I unisatlled the Office 2010 32 bit using the control panel method.

I attempted to install on Win7 enterprise 64 bit OS from the setup.exe in the root dir of the DVD
and it installs the 32 bit version.

Reading on forums it stated to go to x64 folder and run setup.exe form there, but there is not an x64 folder on the DVD. The following is the listing on the DVD

Access.en-us
Admin
Catalog
Excel.en-us
Groove.en-us
Infopath.en-us
Office.en-us
Office64.en-us
OneNote.en-us
Outlook.en-us
Powerpoint.en-us
Proofing.en-us
ProPlus.WW
Publisher.en-us
Rosebud.en-us
Updates
Word.en-us
Setup.exe

I am needing to use 64bit in order to work with large excel files.

Am I missing something?

How do I verify that it is really the 64bit version?

How do I go about installing the 64 bit version?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have the Office 2010 Professional Plus DVD and in it's root are the following directories and files:

x64
x86
aurorun.inf
setup.exe

I believe all Office 2010 disks include both the 32-bit and 64-bit software. The listing you quoted is the contents of the x86 directory. The x64 directory does not have Rosebud.en-us (I don't know what this is anyway.)

The ONLY way to install the 64 bit version of Office is to run Setup from the x64 directory. Any other Setup will install the 32-bit version.

Hi jdwork,

Please share if the DVD is a retail version or you created a backup.

As correctly suggested by 'Birk', Office 2010 disks include both the 32-bit and 64-bit software': http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee681792(office.14)

The 'Setup.exe' in the given list will install the '32 bit Office version' by default. Please try to navigate to the folder 'Office64.en-us' (listed as one of the folders above) and open it to see if 'x64/set.exe' is visible there. If yes, try installing the program to see if the '64 bit version' is installed.

Note: Follow the steps in this tutorial to ensure that the 'Files/Folders' are not hidden: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/394-hidden-files-folders-show-hide.html

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

The disc was copied from the original disc and provided from sys admin who claimed it is 64 bit version.

I believed it was 32 bit and was looking for confirmation.

I had looked in all directories/folders including the Office64.en-us and there was not any other setup.exe file
except for the one in the root directory listing.

Thanks for the replies. I am still working to get sys admin to agree this is the 32 bit version.

Hi jdwork,

A standard Office DVD would contain both executable files (for Office 32 bit & 64 bit) as discussed before. It appears that there is an issue with the backup copy that you're using. Please speak with the 'System Admin' to find more about it.

Alternatively, you may want to download a trial copy of the same software from the internet and use the product key information on the media for activation.

Hope this helps.
