Office 2010 Update Troubles

My computer has trouble when installing Office 2010 Professional Plus. It can install the software, but not the associated updates. Without Office, the updates all work fine and I have none to do. With Office installed, there are 28. I left them install over night, but the computer remained on 9 of the 28 all night, with no progress made.
I also have an error message appear with Office installed saying there is a problem with the printer - this has never happenned before and doesn't happen without Office 2010.
I bought Office through a work scheme, so have a downloader and product key, but no disk.
Any ideas why I cannot update the computer? I cannot safely shut down without sorting this!

Office Pro Plus is a Volume License only product, and not for sale to the general public - unless you acquired this from your employer or college, then it is counterfeit, and may contain malware.

From where did you download the installation files? It's possible that the download was slightly corrupted.
Shut down the computer using the power button, and reboot.
The failed install should roll back. Check in the Update Hiistory and see which updates failed - one will have a different failure code to the others, we need to know that failure code, and the KB number of the update.

I work for a college so bought the software through a college scheme.
I downloaded the software from the link sent to me in the email with the product key, so it is all legitiment.
When looking at failed updates, I think it is service pack 1 which causes the issue

Assuming you are trying to install Office Professional 64-bit in Windows 7 64-bit, in order to do that you need to make sure there are no other Office Programs which are of 32-bit versions in computer.

Is the "bit-ness" of your computer and the install media the same? Your system spec says your computer is 32-bit.

I assumed that since all updates which automatically downloaded were for a 32 bit system, that my computer was 32 bit. After checking this, it is actually a 64 bit system. Having used the download suggested, for a 32 bit system, it still froze and did not install.
I am now downloading the 64 bit version and will try to install this. Would this difference effect my chances of success?

Please post an MGADiag report - it will tell us what type of Windows is installed.

It is not possible to install 64-bit Office on a 32-bit system, but it is possible to install 32-bit Office onto a 64-bit system.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

The other members who have posted suggestions are far more expert than I.
So, feel free to follow their suggestions & disregard mine.

However, I experienced an "error 78F" failure trying to install Office 2010 SP1 from Office Pro Plus (also from a university) on my Win7/32-bit laptop a few weeks ago.
(All the other patches had installed just fine.)

Apparently, there were known issues with Office 2010 SP1 (in fact, I still haven't upgraded from Office 2007 on my other rig, as I don't relish the idea...).

After extensive research with workarounds suggesting everything already mentioned and then some (including reinstalling the entire Office suite, and even reinstalling Windows!), I tried the "easiest" suggestion first. I think it was in one of the replies, from this forum topic:

Although I have no idea why it worked, inserting a readable DVD into the laptop's optical drive and playing it minimized (I used a video movie) while I tried a 2nd time to install the SP1 worked like a charm!
After that, all subsequent patches installed fine and the Suite works perfectly.
(Note: this doesn't work for everyone, but it sure beats reinstalling the whole thing, editing the registry, etc!)

I had an error message relating to my printer appearing, so decided to uninstall it, having nothing to lose. I tried again and it has now worked. I've no idea how this could relate but it seems to!

That would probably have been second on my list - much though I love the printers, some of their drivers 'leave something to be desired'.
