I have a copy of Office 2010 Home and student that came with my computer. It worked well until I tried to install Microsoft Outlook. Now, every time I try to start Outlook, it makes me re-enter my product key. Why is this?
I have tried running office as an administrator, which was a solution I found when I googled my problem, but it still does not work. What is going on here?

Office versions that come preinstalled are trial versions with the exception of Office 2010 starter which is a different animal. You can check your activation status this way:

How to check the activation type and status of Office 2010 installations - Office Deployment Support Team Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs

Also, how did you install Outlook, outlook is not included in the home & student version. So its possible what you have now is standard or pro edition and thats why its asking for a key.

It says that it cannot find script file ospp.vbs when I try to authenticate.
However, when I enter my Product Key, it does say it is authentic (as it well should be, my copy is legit)
When it asked me what I wanted to install (word, excel, etc) Outlook was one of the options. I did not initially install it, but since I need it as an email client now, I was able to go back and install it.
My cd was given to me by HP when I bought the laptop, if that's at all helpful.

Try again. You need to open the cmd prompt as admin, type the commands very carefully.

I'm unfamiliar with OEM installations of Office 2010. I believe they're usually time-limited versions, and that you have to buy a key to continue using them.

The retail Home an Student version that I bought will install a trial version of Office 2010 Professional, if the installer is permitted to do that. The Home version does not include Outlook. (That's one of the more, er, aggressive sales techniques I've seen Microsoft employ.)

Either way, I don't expect you to be able to activate Outlook with a Home and Student key.

Can you uininstall Office (including Outlook) then reinstall from the disk? I suspect that the root of the problem is outlook.

If I re-install from the disk, can I try to install outlook again or is this just completely bust?

If the disk installs and works fine with the provided key, the problem would most likely lie with outlook. You can try reinstalling outlook, recurrence of the problem will confirm that. If you really, really need outlook, consider buying an edition with outlook included otherwise use an open source mail client or simply webmail.
