Anyone think changing HT link and NB from 2400mhz to 2600mhz will gain much performance in games?

Again it depends on the base freq to begin with

Some AMD chips are already running 2600mhz stock some are lower

When overclocking the HT which is still FSB related will bring it higher the point here is not to exceed those numbers when adjusting ram

When you are just using the Multi it does nothing but using FSB will Overclock the ram and HT at the same time so it is truly up to you

If you think you get more gains either way AMD overclocking the wall is 2600 or a little over anything going further 2800 MHz I think 3000 the max it will give major issue but again it's up to you


Now as far as the Hyper Threading goes I have only turned it off during getting a 5.1 ghz oc other then that it's fine being on

These chips are made to run under these conditions or the features wouldn't be on them
besides this how many people are really turning the clocks up on their chips if you are the general public chances are you are happy with stock so I doubt it really matters to a point

Those who turn it off generally have better knowledge and understanding then the average joe so I doubt many care to turn it off unless it really matters and that would be a pro decision

Piledriver likes the Ht link higher than Cpu/nb unlike Bulldozer which liked them equal. For instance my Cpu/nb is 2400 and HT 2600. Have a butchers at this chap AMD Bulldozer and Piledriver Overclocking Guide - Asus Motherboard

Beware that when overclocking and benching the 8350 it will draw over 300w so you need to make sure your motherboard is able to cope with that.

i thought the ht and the NB have to be equal. like if the ht is at 2400mhz and the nb is at 2200, the ht will only run at 2200mhz.....? and vise versa. i have a 6350 not 8350.

In other words if you are running 2400 adjust it to 2600

but watch the ram freq make sure you don't go over with the ram sticks

If not using the ram you can simple adjust the ht to 2600

so basically there will be no advantage to me OCing the NB....? my HT is already at 2400mhz.
k so i can only adjust cpu-nb frequency and ht link frequency. by default, ht is at 2400 and cpu-nb is at 2200.


AMD is so confusing.

its weird that i have a cpu-nb voltage adjustment AND a northbridge adjustment when i can ONLY change cpu-nb frequency

No mate,
You have 3 options when overclocking with AMD.
1. You can oc using the multipliers only which effects only the frequency of each seperately.
2. you can oc using the fsb/base clock which is linked to theCpu, Cpu/nb,Ht link and ram so when u raise the base clock you will raise all the others together.

3. You can use a combination of both, ie: find you max multiplier oc and then tweak it by raising the base clock. When you raise the base clock you can lower the multipliers so that the Cpu/nb,Ht Link and ram stay below the frequency you found when just overclocking with the multipliers.

ok yea for now, im just using cpu multiplier and ht link. later when i get into more advanced OC, ill mess with everything individually.

OK, as a byproduct of having my screen black out, having to do a hard reset, and finding my BIOS set to default shock: worrisome to say the least). I had to reset my BIOS settings, accidentally set it to 167Mhz instead of the 166Mhz I had, thus a new OC (ram now at 1666Mhz as well). So I did what any concerned geek would, and grabbed a validation, lol. If it was just a one off occurrence, may try for a higher clock for validation purposes only

Yeah if you just oc via the multipliers at first it will give you a general idea of voltages needed for certain frequencies aswell as finding your max multiplier oc if you decide to push that much. I found on my system that i needed less voltage when just using the multipliers so my 24/7 oc is just a multi oc. My benching oc profiles are done using a combination of both though as you get slightly better performance when raising the base clock/Fsb.

why is your voltage still at 1.2 when your at your base multi?
