Is this okay? Has anyone done this? I read some problems in general when upgrading one version of Windows 7 to another, but is this common?

Thanks.

Nothing to worry about at all.
I have upgraded v7000 to v7022, v7022 to v7048, v7048 to v7052.
And if you do encounter a problem during the upgrade, it has a rollback feature that will take you back to your previous version.

No need to.

Extract your iso to your hard drive and run setup.exe.

It does take longer to upgrade than to do a fresh install, but all the settings migrate fine.

I have been lurking and glad I found this forum, I had been with the 7000 beta, and just recently (today) upgraded to the 7057 64bit. I really like W7, keep spending more time on this than my XP box, in fact I have the 32bit version of 57 on a small build, under my desk.

Will be lurking (reading) some more...

You may have problems but not everyone has and if it does not work it will revert to the old build again, it will take about 1-2 hours for an upgrade and 20 minutes for a fresh install using a DVD. I think the best option for this build is fresh install because of the many changes.

There shouldn't be any problems with the actual dualboot, though if you have renamed "Older version of windows" etc you may need to do this again.

I am afraid many people have had problems upgrading when booting a single OS, as the beta builds are not designed to be upgraded.
You should always do a clean install if possible. :)

This is a bit OT but I wanted to see if it was possible to downgrade to Vista from Windows 7, first I edited my 7057 build ISO and Rebuilt it using the Vista install.wim, started the upgrade and it seemed to be working...

Great I though, if this works that will make allot of people happy who wanted to go back to Vista when the Beta runs out. It got to the 4th stage in the install after unpacking where it was about to install programs and updates and then I got a message to say that it could not update the registry, upgrade failed.

Maybe this might give someone with a bit more skill some ideas and possibly find a way to make this work and just so everyone knows I am dual booting and you should never do an upgrade from your primary OS to a Beta OS unless you are prepared to format it and start all over when the Retail OS is available.

THERE IS NO WAY TO DOWNGRADE TO VISTA NOR CAN YOU UPGRADE TO THE FINAL RETAIL WINDOWS 7 WHEN USING THIS WINDOWS 7 BETA OR RC1

On my quad machine, it took at least half an hour before I decided to go to bed. So an upgrade is definitely longer than a normal install. As for XP, it will most likely keep the entry. I was using GRUB so it got wiped.

Hi,

I'm dual booting Vista HP 64 bit and Windows 7 beta 7000.
I have W7 on a 30Gb partition on my c: drive.
I'd like to go to build 7057. Should I download it, burn an ISO and then reformat the partition and install it?

Would this be the best way to do it and can anyone recommend a good download?

Thanks, John:)

All you do is download the ISO, right click and extract it with a program such as WinRaR or 7-Zip, then double click the setup.exe and select upgrade when it prompts you. Sit back for an hour and let it do it's thing.

Hi Vahnx.

Thanks for your reply

I got the impression from previous posts that a fresh install was the best way to go from 7000 to 7057.
I've got nothing to lose by reformatting my 30GB W7 partition and was asking if that was the best way to go about it.
Some people seem to be having problems upgrading.

thanks again, John:)

No problems at all with the upgrade here and the beta 7048 was intended to be an upgrade all the way and not a new installation. The only way to get a clean install with that .iso was so remove the .iso contents from the 7000 and replace it with the 7048 so you could run it as a boot CD instead of an upgrade.
