An external hard drive to perform backups of critical data onto that you can keep offsite in case your house/apartment is robbed or burns down.

Great ideas! The fastest SSD of Intel is quite expensive. But I still might find one. I just got new memory, so i'll just stick it there

I have backups for the small space I have, I don't use a lot of DATA.

Most any good SSD will do the same because they all have an access time of 0.1ms - and it is the access time that really counts. Differences in Read/Write times are pretty unimportant. The look nice on Atto or HD Tune charts but do not really mean much for the performance of the OS.

I would buy where you get a good deal. I have 60GB, 80GB and 90GB SSDs (Intel and OCZ) and they are all plenty large for the OS. All I do is move my large user files to a HDD - and on the laptops I keep some on external devices.

Thy say that the Intels are the most reliable. I never had trouble with either the Intels or the OCZs (except the very first one that I bought 3 years ago - but that was replaced without asking questions)

Performance is good. While the Intels don't always have the best specs, they have always performed reliably for me and that is what really matters.

I have an OCZ SSD, but it's only 30GB, and I believe I can get more true performance and space by buying Intel!

If you already have an SSD, the only thing you will likely get is more capacity...you aren't going to see a big performance boost. The value in the SSD is the ultra low random access times. And since you already have that, you aren't going to see much else. While the read/write numbers will likely benchmark higher, real world performance won't change.

Hmm.. it's not really about performance, ohwell, it is kinda.
I'm more like buying it for space, but then I could just buy a HDD right? But it's just not the same!

By the way, does Western Digital make Solid State Drives?

For storage space, get a regular hard drive. They are far cheaper and offer tons more storage. For holding music, internet downloads and video files...there simply is no reason to have them on SSD storage space. If you play a 4 minute MP3..you got 4 minutes to load the song. You don't need it from an SSD and loaded completely in a fraction of a second, it buys you nothing.

you will have to check with ASUS website if there is a BIOS update or a drive max on the bios. the SATA 6.0Gb/s is just stating that its Sata 6/0 compatible
