Is the Vertex a good drive? I want to get into the SSDs, but I don't know what the failure rates are like

For me, the Vertex is the best. Never had a failure yet. The Crucial C300 is supposedly very good too, but I stick with Vertex. I have also two Intels, but I am not so happy with those.

The Intels have hick-ups at times. Just this morning the system ran an automatic chkdsk at boot time on the system where I have an Intel. They never gave up completely, but I wonder what's wrong with them. Speed is not an issue though.

Almost bought a 60GB Intel recently, but rethinking I might go with OCZ.

From all reviews and user reports the OCZ Vertex is very good.

Above is one of the few unhappy reports I've seen for an Intel :confused:

My X25-V 40GB has been just great, no issues.

I'm waiting for the Gen3's to come out, should be in the next couple of months.
They will be 25nm, rumors are they will be faster and about half the price.
Not holding my breath for the price reduction but, hoping see at least 30%.
I'm going to have my first look at the new Intels, for several reasons that I'd rather not go into, don't want to stir up any discontent.

Dave, you are probably right. The newer Intels may be different than my Gen1 models. But the two I have are not that great - at the time they were (relatively) cheap and I had first planned them for Vista that does not support Trim. But one I used for Win7. It is still fast, but as I said, there are occasional hickups.

My first OCZ (about 2 years ago) was a disaster too. I constantly got orphaned files. I sent it back to Newegg who sent me a new one. That one I sent to OCZ for a firmware update (it was so far backlevel that I could not do it myself). The OCZ people were extremely helpful and did everything for free - even paid the postage.

The OCZ forum is a great resource and very helpful.

If MS tool fails, to write ISO to flash stick install Ultra ISO trial version, on File tab open ISO, on Bootable tab Write Disk Image, Format button, Write button. Boot under USB or HD's on BIOS Boot menu.
