CompUSA and Circuit City are both owned by Tiger Direct. Thus whatever Tiger Direct has on-line usually it's the same price at CompUSA on line or Circuit City which is only an on line shop.

There are some CompUSA brick and mortar stores but I've found different prices in the stores for many items.

That Vertex for $119 is a real good deal. I paid $225 for the same SSD - more than 1 year ago. Prices for SSDs really come down.

I found that I am being best served with a midrange system. Then I can buy a new one every 3 years rather than spending a fortune on a box that looks old after one year. There is always the possibility for small upgrades like an SSD or graphics card. But the cost must stay within reason. And since I am not a gamer, that approach works well for me.

Same here. When Windows 7 came out I decided it was time for an upgrade. Old system had EIDE drives DDR memory and USB 1. I reused my case and my DVD drive (HP with LightScribe) and spend about $600. Since then I have updated the case for better cooling and added another WD 1tb drive. May look at add in video card and maybe a SSD when the prices get right.

I bought a higher end PC than I needed, don't plan to replace it for a long time.

Dave, do you have 2 bays in your laptop or are you planning to use the CD/DVD bay for the second disk.
That hybrid drive looks interesting - especially for laptops with only 1 bay. I had not seen that before. Thanks for sharing it.

My laptop is a Dell Studio 17" with 2 HDD bays, probably at the end of the year (or before) I'll get another SSD, maybe a little bigger and a little faster. Then the X25-V will go into the laptop, though I don't think I need a bigger SSD except to get use of the full controller. Been thinking about the XT since I saw the review at Anandtech.

It does look interesting.

Interesting article. Maybe in the near future they will put more than 4GB Nand on the drive. I wonder how this 4GB "buffer" overlaps with the RAM buffering (caching) that Superfetch does.
