Old PC is faster than my new laptop

I don't know my laptop's specs because it's not with me right now but I do know it's an Intel i7 with 8GB DDR3 RAM. It's a DELL 3537.. look up its specs.

And here are my 4 year old PC's specs...

Both my PC and laptop are dual-core. In the system rating the overal score on both machines is 5.9 but on the laptop the other settings are below 7.0... while, as you can see, this computer is far much higher. Why is that?

I am no expert when it comes to this site, but I do know that a laptop CPUs and the GPU are not as powerful as the desktop counterparts because of cooling issues and power input which is why mobile versions exist. I haven't looked to much into your laptop but if its got a i7 it wont be a i7 you get in a desktop computer it will most likely be a mobile version which has less GHz, maybe that explains the score a bit.

As stated above there could be many reasons for this. Software OR hardware related. Some system spec.'s would help determine the causes and no thank you YOU provide those.I'm busy enough to not want to take the time to do your job.

I'm not forcing you. Thought you would be interested in this thread and look up its specs because I'm not really good with hardware or software related stuff... I don't know how to do that.

Laptop hardware (CPU/GPU)is far less powerful than the desktop counterparts in exchange for the mobility.

It will take a few future generations for the mobile hardware to catch up performance-wise to current desktop performance.
This is normal and not all that surprising.

The design priorities of a laptop are small size, low weight, and low power consumption, and low cost. Those priorities have many implications. Anything that seriously compromises those requirements must go.

High performance anything in a computer, particularly video, requires more power consumption and that results in more heat. Those are the laws of physics. Higher power consumption means shorter run time on battery power, a serious problem. Heat is difficult to manage in the confined space of a laptop with limited air circulation. Many laptops run hot under normal use. High performance isn't compatible with the priorities of laptop design.

To be sure there are the so called "gaming" laptops. But they are an expensive compromise and performance still doesn't match a good desktop. All of these issues are of much less importance in a desktop and are much easier to control, and at a lower cost.

Laptops are convenient. But you pay for that convenience in a variety of ways.
