On Re-Start All Apps Open By Themself

I had a very unusual problem. This is with Win7 Pro 64 bit.

During a session of copying a lot of files from a memory stick to the hard drive, at the end Explorer hung up. I ended the task with the task manager, and found I had to re-start the computer. I have no idea if this is what did the damage!

On the re-start, all the installed programs in this computer opened up as if someone was very quickly clicking on everything in existance!

The startup folder was empty, and therefore it could not be anything installed in the startup folder.

I searched everywhere for the phrase, "When Windows 7 restarts all installed applications open". I also tried some variations of this phrase. I tried searching this out in a number of search engines.

I fixed the fault by going to my last known good image of the system. After re-imaging it back everything was working okay.

My question is, does anyone here know what this type of fault may be, in case I get it again?

My preference is to fix the fault. In taking the backup image I lost my most recient emails and my most recient updates of my work entries. I now have to re-enter a lot of things manually.

It suspect it was malware or a malicious script. Always scan usb sticks before cutting or copying from/ to them. I would also run a mbam scan both on the computer and the stick.

+1 - have a look at Microsoft Essentials if you do not have an AV installed

Bonjour Jerry,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

It would also be good if you could invest in a removable storage drive on which you could store ( or store copies of) your critical documents and data.

Take care and regards
