onboard sound card question

sup fellas, have a stupid question for you...
Just switched my desktop to windows 7 from xp pro and have a weird latency with my audio. This latency did not exist on XP, but with 7 it is there. I have been using just my motherboard soundcard (desktop for recording) with the 6 1/8" inputs ... I have my dj mixer's output to the mic input on the soundcard and the speaker output to the sound system. I have downloaded all the updated realtek audio drivers, but still have this 1/4 second latency. I have also tried running my mixer's output to the line-in opposed to the mic and get no audio recognition. Any ideas?

The line in is an unpowered line. If you have a self powered sound source, you should be able to use this port to feed sound into your computer. My best guess is to may certain that you have the correct drivers, make sure there are no device conflicts and to check to see if it is a program issue.

Try connecting your mixer output to the Line Input jack on your soundcard.

Many soundcards use a deliberate delay on the MIC to prevent feedback.

If the Line In is not working, check the Sound Panel in the Control Panel and set the Line In as the Default Recording device. Or better yet, if you have the System Mixer set it as the default then either input should work.

Also, keep in mind the mic jack is mono and the line in is stereo, unless you have a combo jack that works for both.

Also, you need Windows 7 drivers (or at a minimum Vista) drivers as the XP drivers are not compatible or at least not fully compatible and that can be an issue since you upgraded from XP.

Ok, here is the update. Latency is now gone, however I get a pop up when trying to read levels when recording. "Input device error- Your sound card is being accessed by another program, and canot be used by multiple applications at the same time..." I have already messed around with some of the settings for "exclusive controls" of the card, but no dice.
