Guys,

I have a Sony VGN-FZ21E the laptop shows no display when turned on and give one long beep and then two short beeps. I've tried connecting a external display but this also shows no picture.

I've changed the RAM and the HHD but the beep still continue, with no display showing.

How do I fix this problem?

Hi,

Those beeps are your BIOS "telling" you something is wrong. In order to work out what it is trying to say, we need to know what BIOS you are running. When your PC boots, it shows a black screen with writing.....something like AWARD BIOS Ver 1.021.

Can you tell us what yours says? Once we know, we can work out what the beeps mean.

Regards,
Golden

There is no display shown, I've even connected a external monitor which shows connected but both displays have no picture.

Mmm....you should definately be getting the BIOS POST message....that points to an unseated graphics card possibly. You said you replaced the hard disk....is there a chance you unseated the graphics card by accident?

The problem started and there after I replaced the hard drive but the beep still contuined with no display, I then knew the HDD was not the issue therefore replaced the RAM still had the beeps and no displays. So I guess the HDD and RAM are no issue...

Is there here that Sony VAIO Notebook BIOS Beep Codes 1 long and 2 short beep mean (Video Controller Failure or faulty add-on card).

Could this be it? If so how do I repair the problem?

Thanks

Yes, that could be the issue, especially since you do not see the post screen at bootup.

Check to see that the card is still seated/connected properly. I've never looked inside a laptop before : how does it get its power? Is there a power lead/wire?

I've open the laptop up, all the laptop parts are on a on board circuit board. I've circle in red what I THINK is the graphics card.

If its still under warranty, send it to be fixed.

But, i would highly assume that the GPU is soldered onto the board meaning you will probably need to buy a new laptop or find another Sony laptop that is identical and swap the boards over.

So I guess there is no possible way of fixing this problem as the warranty is over due.

I am afraid so, unless like i said, you get another Sony laptop that is identical to yours (best place i would say is Ebay).

This is the downside of laptops, there are some i believe you can change the GPU but don't hold me to that.

But either way, thats the hit of it.

This problem plagues Sony laptops as well as all-in-one desktops that have an integrated Nvidia GPU. I paid to have my motherboard repaired by an authorised Sony repairer and the same fault re-occured after just three months - literally days after the repair warranty expired.

If this happens to you, and Sony won't repair it for free, take my advice and cut your losses - put the money towards a new, non-Sony replacement.
