One specific folder no thumbnails

I have one folder on my drive that refuses to display any thumbnails for images. Just a gray X


I can copy them to another folder and they appear. Bring them back they vanish again.


Why would Win 7 decide that one single folder cannot display thumbnails?


I found an earlier thread someone had this back in 2017 but not one single reply so that is a dead end thread.

First try clearing the thumbnails cache. Clear Thumbnails Cache – Guide for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10NeoSmart Knowledgebase

Rebuild the thumb database file in that particular folder. This is for Windows 10, but will be essentially the same. How to Repair Damaged or Corrupted Thumbs.db Files

While your at it. Once you turn on to show hidden files, delete the desktop.ini file in that folder if present. Back it up first. Try this before the thumbs procedure.

I only found (search) a few thumb.db files. The option for disk clean does not show any options to select what to clean. Only thing is a drop down to select drive then a cancel or ok. I click OK the window closes. Seems nothing happens.
