Solved Only backspace works on startup

Featureless

I had noticed that while i was playing a game that my escape key was not working inside of the game. I found this odd so I exited the game and opened google chrome. After doing so I realized the other keys on my keyboard were not working as well. I decided to restart my computer to see if that would fix the issue. When my computer loads up the only key that responds is the backspace key, and it just seems to enter a random letter into my password for my login. I tried using a different keyboard and booting into safe mode but neither worked. Any ideas how to solve this issue?

Open a command prompt. Type the whole alphabet. None of them work? Which ones do work?
Or can't you logon in windows at all?

F8 on boot to enter safe mode doesn't work as well? It did before? Can you enter BIOS?

I can enter safe mode, but it still requires me to enter a password for my account, which I can't do

So F8 on boot work?! I thougth none of the keys (except backspace) did work(?)

Press F8 on boot. Now select "repair my computer". follow instructions. Can you enter password there? If so click "command prompt" on this screen. Does keyboard work now?

I got into the System Recovery Options where it shows my username and tells me to enter a password, but the only keys that work are backspace which seems to type some letter, z clears all the letters typed, and when I press r and y together it types a character as well. However I can't see what any of these characters are.

What keyboard layout do you select after "repair your computer"? (first screen after that)
On normal logon screen it's as well selectable. Click keyboard icon in top left of screen

You tried another keyboard as well... both were ps2 keyboards or usb?

I am selecting US for the keyboard format and I think I only have usb ports on my motherboard, I've tried every single one and none work

(I have ps2, I just dont use them becasue I have no ps2 keyboard)

Both keyboards were usb, one keyboard requires two usb ports and the other only requires one

I was able to log into the computer but my keyboard and mouse are still buggy. My mouse's scroll wheel only zooms in and out, the left click acts as if I click on something with my scroll wheel. Both keyboards are still buggy and wont respond, only the z key works normally, also when I use the s or f key they act as if I am using control while typing them by bringing up the find menu or save menu.

I was able to get into my computer but my mouse and keyboard are still buggy. For my mouse when I left click it acts as if I am click on something with my scroll wheel and when I move my scroll wheel up or down it zooms, like if I have control held down. As for the keyboard only my z 9 and 8 keys work normally. When I use the f or s key it acts like I have control held down by going to the find menu or the save menu.

I am currently running several anti-viruses to see if that will solve anything.

So you tried 2 usb keyboards. And you tried all usb ports. US keyboard setting should be fine. Windows recovery environment is sort of mini win7... it is totally seperated from rel win7. So no driver issue. Since your mouse is also buggy... I expect it's an usb problem.

Run anti4us from bootable CD/DVD not from within win7! Virus can already be active!
What is Windows Defender Offline?
Note

  • We recommend that you download Windows Defender Offline and create the CD, DVD, or USB flash drive on a PC that isn't infected with malware—the malware can interfere with the media creation.
Do you have a win7 install dvd?

Also when I hold down the z key it allows me to type like normal

So holding down the z key all the time fixes the problem? But then you can't type z ;-)
and you get RSI.

Sure that works with all your usb keyboards?

So if you don't press z key all is normal? z brings computer in strage state. you can solve that by pressing CTRL-key .... correct?
