*Only* IE10 install fails in Windows Update

OK, here's the CBS log & persist file after a reboot and fresh sfc scan. Sorry about that, and thanks again, Noel.

OK, bad news. Friend & owner of the computer in question said his feet are back on Canadian soil and he wants to grab the computer on his way back home so he can unload his camera, update facebook & crap.
I guess we're done before we were done. Still going to give you as many accolades as I can on this one, Noel. You've been a fantastic help!

The CheckSUR is now clear - but the SFC still crashed :(

I'm not sure what the problem there is - but it could lead to other problems along the way.
If the owner wants to come back in to finish off the job, he'd be welcome!

And when I ran the SFC scan, it never showed any errors in the dos box. It just looked like it finished normally and told me where the logs were. Not doubting you at all, Noel, just saying that it's a mystery here too. Thanks a million for all the help on this. I learned a lot along the way, and that's worth something. I'll probably end up seeing this machine again the next time he goes on holiday or when it totally louses up. One or the other.
