Everytime I try to play Quake 3 Arena or Counter Strike 1.6, it seems that there are bars that go down my screen. I am about to just go back to Windows Vista to solve the problem, but I was wondering if someone knew a solution?

Install the latest Vista version of your drivers instead, I believe the beta Windows 7 graphic drivers lack proper OpenGL support. I had the same problem with OpenGL games with my ATI x1900 card and using the Vista drivers instead of the ones meant for Win7 fixed it. Good luck.

driver version 8.15.10 WDDM 1.1

I try the latest Intel chipset graphics driver for Vista 15.6...then I always got bluescreen with memory dump..

For ATI Radeon graphic cards:
Try to install 9.1 drivers. On my system it works. :)

Found a solution, couldn't find the original link where I found it though.
It requires using RivaTuner.
You can download RivaTuner here.
Note: I'm a nvidia user so I'm not too sure if this can extend to integrated graphics users and/or ATI.

Go to OpenGL Settings under Driver Settings in the Main Rivatuner window.
Under the Back / depth buffering tab, change the Back buffer flipping mode from "Auto select" to "Block transfer".

Tbh, I have no idea what this does but it got rid of the horizontal lines when running OpenGL games fullscreen.
Let me know if this made a difference for anyone.

Games affected:

  • Doom 3
  • Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast
  • Star Wars JK Jedi Academy
  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein

have an nvidia 6100 integrated card... gonna try that RivaTuner thing, not sure if it will work, thanks for the post anyway!

Games I wanna play but can't:

Jedi Academy
Jedi Outcast

BTW, I don't get bars on my screen, the game just crashes in the beginning and displays an openGL error...
