I have read all of the possible solutions to open ie8 pages maximzed instead of just a small (about 4 lines) page. I tried them all but none of them works. I changed to ie8 properties option to "maximize" but still no maximize. Does anyone know what needs to be done to open ie8 pages maximized? I know other browers do this but I am asking about ie8.

I know what you mean. This is a shortcomming to IE. This is how I handle it. Make sure properties is set to max. When you open a window that is less than max, stretch it out so it fulls the screen. If you do get a window that forgets it will almost be like full size. Then max it. Do this every time you are in a new screen, be careful not to forget, if you click on a link and a new window opens. Do this every time. When you exit dont hit the right hand x, go to file and click exit. I think the most important step is to make sure that explorer propertis is properly set, ie the biggest, size for windows. It seems to take time, but my machine seems to always open full size now.

PS Once in a while it forgets, but basically all are full size windows.

Since I dislike IE and only use it when I'm forced to, I consider this a feature.

I would suggest that you use a different browser, but whatever works for you...

I use Chrome. All I have to do to get it to start maximized is to add a little "-start-maximized" switch to the end of the shortcut target path, and I'm don. :D

Thanks. I have tried this already and again now. Still does not work.

Have you tried right-clicking on the shortcut for IE8 (shift-right-click if it's on your taskbar), going to the "shortcut" tab, and selecting "maximized" from the "Run" drop-down menu?

I didn't know about that feature until just now. :)

to solve the problem regarding minimized window size of ie 8 in windows
7 and make it to a full window.
Open only one ie8 window
on the upper bar of the window
right click it and choose size
resize the window to its full view
then go to file menu and choose exit.
there you go
open ie 8 it will surely default in full view

INH and lucas3x.......... both your tricks works like a charm !!!

But I still had the issue of IE-8 not opening maximised when a new window is opened through a link from the original window....

This is how I solved it:

1. Manually expand i.e. drag and fit the new window

2. Close the original window (just hit the X button.... not necessary that you need to choose File > Exit)

3. Then close the new window (which was re-sized)

Thatz it !!

IE does remember the size that you choose for the original window i.e. Maximized (according to the solution provided by INH and lucas3x). It will also remember the manual re-size (any shape and size) that you did to the new window as well.

Here is what I did, works a charm.

You will need to make a bat file, in your documents or where ever you want to save it.
then right click it and edit
then copy and paste this, with out quotes

"@echo off
start Yahoo! UK"

then save it (this is one for yahoo uk) just replace it with your own url.
then right click and create shortcut.
then move the shortcut to your desk top.
then right click the shortcut , go to properties and under the shortcut tab, go to the run box and change to minimized, yes that's right "minimized. you can change your icon there as well.
then close it.
once done your window will open maximized every time.
