opening .car file extensions

I am rinning win7 x64 home premium and I have been cleaning out my old cd's. I have an old win95 generations deluxe genealogy cd which will not setup in any mode on this computer. there is an social security death index set of 2 cds and I do not want to pitch it. I can mount and view it/them but not use them. The internals of the isos/cds are in .car file extensions and I cannot open these archives as I can not find a car archive r that will run on win7 x64. and no 7zip or winrar or winzip will not open them. they are essentially they are text converted to database and compressed. does anyone know how to get these open so I can either use them or recreate them in another database program. I cannot get help from the company who sold them to me as they are no in business anymore.



any help would be appreciated. there must be a way to open these.

Is there anyway you can zip up one or more of these files and attach them to your reply so that we can see if there is any way of opening them? I've not heard of .car before, but I'll have a look to see if I can find something. A file to work with and test would be useful.

apparently, they are an archived file done with car archiver or sapcar, none of which will run on this computer in any mode. 7zip recognized it as an archive but could not open it car #1 attached..never mind..the smallest file is 15.5 megs and wont upload as an attachment.

Is that the smallest file you have from all the disks? You said that you could mount and view them. Presumably this means that you can see them as folders/files, but not the actual contents? I wonder if a live version of Linux (such as Ubuntu) would allow you to view the contents. Note that running a live version of Linux will not affect your Windows installation since it runs entirely in RAM.
