Opening loads of tabs, last tab crashes, mouse cursor stutters

Twice in the past two days, I've had this issue occur, where I've been mass-opening tabs on a website, obviously something that can cause some memory problems at some point, but I get easily over-worried about any little thing that goes wrong with my computer.

What happens is usually the very last tab will show blank, and the mouse will start to stutter/jump/move slowly/etc for about 1-2 seconds, before the last tab refreshes with the typical problem occurring and page refreshed thing, but with only that tab refreshing (all others are fine) and mouse returning to normal.

Is this a normal thing for Internet Explorer 10 when bogging the memory a bit?

I only ask due in part to my paranoia, but also because a week ago I had similar problems in which bogging down the memory in IE10 (or most of the time, just opening video files), the entire computer would freeze up for 2-3 seconds, then the motherboard would boop once, and everything return to normal. Either the motherboard failed overnight (while the comp was off) or it got damaged when I touched it (when I went to open it up and adjust the RAM sticks, thinking that might've been the problem) but I got a new motherboard, same model, and this problem is suspiciously similar.

Is this current issue related, or is it just IE10's response to bogging the memory? Or is it an entirely unrelated thing?

I took my computer to the people at Geek Squad (twice in two weeks) and they (supposedly) ran tests on everything and found no problems with any of the hardware devices (the RAM, video card, motherboard, and hard drives were less than 1 year old).

Please tell me I broke my own motherboard with my grimey, static-y fingers!

...I've been mass-opening tabs on a website,...

1) How many tabs are we talking about? 10? 3000?

2) Were these tabs opened from links on a website or from favorites/shortcuts?
(e.g. right click on a favorites bar folder > Open in tab group)

3) If shortcuts in a favorites bar folder were used, then how were those shortcuts made?
(drag/drop from the address field to the favorite bar folder...
...or were they created via Explorer's right-click > New > Shortcut process?)

Are you using IE10 with 32bit tabs or with 64bit tabs?

around 10 and above, though it can happen with as few as 5-6 (though that tends to come after opening around 50-60 tabs and closing them when I'm doing with them).

They're opened from a website's links, not from favorites or shortcuts.

I just got IE10 pre-installed on my computer when it was wiped by Geek Squad. No idea what 32-bit/64-bit "tabs" are. I have Windows 7 64-bit

Take a look at the tutorial that I linked to and you will know how to turn on (or off) 64bit tabs.

Here is the link again:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...-bit-64-bit-ie10-windows-7-a.html#post2312336

Open task manager and make sure that IE is not running
Use the Control Panel > Internet Options to set IE's home page to about:blank
(Or Control Panel > Network and Internet > Internet Options)

Open IE10 with only that one about:blank tab open
Look at task manager again
Expand the column for the Image Name
If you see iexplore.exe *32, then you probably do not have 64bit tabs enabled.

Try enabling 64bit tabs and see if the problem that you mentioned in your OP still occurs.

Doesn't sound like a hardware issue,
Sounds more like a bug/ browser jamming,

What security suite do you have installed ?

It appears as if I don't have 64-bit tabs on. I did look at that tutorial, but blacked out at some point where it mentioned reinstalling IE. And what benefit does 64-bit tabs have?

I have Norton Security Suite that came free with Comcast.

If there was an answer buried in there, I couldn't find it. Does this actually do anything or is it just a heightened security level? And is it related to my memory bogging thing?

And ultimately my primary concern is determining if this "problem" is related to faulty hardware (or faulty OS installation) or certain background services, or is it normal response to opening and closing half a hundred tabs in half a minute?

I have Norton Security Suite that came free with Comcast.
That's a scary situation which I'm not sure how that even happens ?
Comcast offered a download to Norton as your primary security ?
Comcast is of course a internet service provider and I would doubt a free version of Norton would be of any real good/ even their paid for services are not the best options available,
I would suggest running these two free scanners,
Update them before running the full scans, (one at a time of course).

Comcast has its own security package, which includes Norton Security Suite free, unlimited subscription. It works, it has no ads.

I already use Malwarebytes, on a semi-daily basis, did a full scan a week ago.

It appears as if I don't have 64-bit tabs on....
Which is the default mode for IE10.

......I did look at that tutorial, but blacked out at some point where it mentioned reinstalling IE....
You do not need to re-install IE. You probably already know how to get to the screen that is shown in step 4. Do steps 4 and 5 - restart the computer - you are done.

...And what benefit does 64-bit tabs have?...
It is more efficient - so less of a load on the computer. I'm not saying that you have to keep 64bit tabs turned on, I'm just suggesting that you try it and let us know if you see a noticeable difference.

Since your antivirus tool is free, then there should not be any hassle to re-install it after a brief test without it. Again, just as a test, consider un-installing all aspects of Norton and its live update stuff - then install MSE. Let us know if you see any difference in performance while working with so many tabs.

If you make IE10 as efficient as it can be and if you install a lighter weight antivirus product - and you still see the original problem - then we can move on to checking the hardware.
