Solved Opera randomly closes itself

Hey everyone,

Opera recently has been randomly closing itself, and then restarting with the option to continue from last time, so I'm not losing anything I might have open at the time.

It doesn't matter what website or situation, it's completely random, most of the time it will only happen once a day :huh:

Hi Harry,

Your system specs show you using Opera 12.16, have you tried updating? The newest version is 15.0.1147.100.
You may be like me, these versions come out so often, I forget to update my specs.


It seems any version of Opera before Opera14 had crash problems in these areas:

• Memory leaks. Not much you can do about this one, it's in the programming.
• Compatibility with Adobe Flash. Part of the memory leak problem..
• Add-ons particularly ad-blockers, Opera has one built-in, but isn't very useful.
• Compatibility with a users third-party anti-virus/malware program, I see your using MSE but you can try turning yours off to test.
• If you have Opera set to automatically check for updates, turn it off.

If you haven't, but do need to update to the newest version and are still having crashes try:

I have the same problem. Problem was solved when i turn off proxy with pac file in IE settings. I set it manually.

A Guy uses Opera as his primary browser and he may have some thoughts on this, if he doesn't see your thread either you or I can point him here.

Thanks, I've just updated to the latest version now, I'll post back if I get a another crash or everything remains okay

The latest Opera release looks just like Chrome? I thought that Mozilla was the only copy cat??

I'm using Firefox now, I don't like the metro look of Opera and it seems to much slower than Opera 12. They've removed the bookmarks bar too.

That's what I heard also, somewhere around the FF25 release/update.

The recent default action is to hide it, but it can be added, see whs's post #4 here: http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/296161-opera-15-amazing.html#post2456173, and my post #5 that follows whs.

I couldn't find any Settings for the Toolbar or related to bookmarks at all.

I downloaded opera next, and I'm disappointed from what I used in 12.15

Your right, there is no way to accumulate bookmarks unless you use stash or that heart thing.

Your supposed to be able to import your marks from another browser, but mine is grayed out.

From the help page of Opera 15. :

Bookmarks

Your bookmarks are safe. Opera 15 includes a bookmark importer. This will read your Opera 12 profile and give you the option to import your bookmarks to Speed Dial.
To import your bookmarks:​

• From the main menu, select More tools > Bookmark importer.
• Click the 'Select Bookmarks' button.
• From the list, select which bookmarks you wish to convert to Speed Dial.

That is not good if it is only from a previous Opera, and just now I realized the reason it is grayed, I uninstalled 12.15 last month so I have no marks to import.


So if anyone within shouting distance is reading this, :haha: DO NOT uninstall any Opera before 14 (was there a 14?) while upgrading to 15 or else you'll lose the ability to import your marks.


The only out you may have is if you're a geek and you have bookmark backups of all your browsers and you can import them, somehow. I'll have to look into that.

I managed to import mine from Opera 12, but with Firefox I had to save the bookmarks as a HTML file and then import them through that method.

Working with Opera is not a top priority for me right now, but when I get a chance I'll give that a try and post back.

I'll try import from Firefox into Opera for you, I think it works with Opera 12, I'm not sure about Opera 15.



You can import your Firefox bookmarks directly into Opera 12.
