The StatCounter graph shows the share of Windows versions out of the total Windows market share (Android has the largest OS market share).

Do you know why the two sites differ? NetMarketShare shows 7 consistently higher than 10 whereas StatCounter shows 10 higher than 7 since January.

It's down to the datasets used by Each - Statistics are easily manipulated either by design or accident

for example if you include several of the far eastern markets you will see an increase in older OS versions back to XP - this is likely due to the high number of pirated older OSs still in use there . the datasets are down to the choice of the companies, and also results are dependent on the algorithms used to specify the OS in Use - It's similar to that which allows two Car manufacturers to be the biggest seller by ignoring the data in a market that a competitor is strong in

There is a good possibility that, due to the artificial blocks in place the Chinese figures are hugely underestimated anyway and would slew figures even more if available.

Also remember that these are systems online and not all systems actually go online or show they are online if they do.

JUst out of interest I just did a rough count of the total current numbers of people visiting our Win7 and Win10 sites (8:30 UK Time )

Windows 7 - 38%
Windows 10 - 62%

Totally non planned or statistically manipulated just the share of the total site visitors (Members and Guests), for each Site ,(OS?) at a certain time

Possibly as 10 is newer, there are more questions. Win7 is a mature, stable OS, which users are already familiar and confortable with.

An additional factor might be, since W7 has been out since 2009 there are a huge number of sites with info and problem fixes (i.e. not just the "obvious" forums).

Presumably the gap will continue to widen as time goes by.
How many people still visit the Vista or W8 forums?

I still visit the Vista forum but I only run Vista as a VM. There isn't much activity at all over there.
