Operating System Question

I just recently installed windows 7 into my computer, i was curious as to how i remove my old operating system? When i start up, i see two different windows 7 choices. One is the old one and the other is the new, how do i delete it so that a] i free up space and b] i don't have to go through that option to choose in the beginning, thanx.

removal of a prior operating system can be complex as the old partition/disk will contain the boot files for both operating systems.

If you can post a screenshot of your complete disk management screen (computer - manage - disk management) this will alow us to better guide you in removing the old system

This is a little confusing - is your OS you wish to keep on the "storage" drive c?

if so you will need the windows 7 installation DVD to correct the boot arrangement once you have deleted the D: drive.

The OS i'm wanting to use is on my D Drive actually

is the OS on the c:drive XP or something else? It is also unusual to see the active system drive shown as D: from inside the running OS

as the d:drive is shown as active and win7 is booting ok from the map it should be possible to simply format the c: drive without a problem - though the presence of the boot tag on the c:drive gives me cause to worry a little.

if you format the c?;drive and then reboot and you find the system will not start you will need to insert the install dvd and boot from that, and choose the repair option and then the startup repair option which should fix things.

You may need to run the startup repair up to 2 or 4 times to complete the repair

Also it is best that you back up all your personal files before you start any changes

Post a screenshot of Disk management when you are booted into the o/s you want to keep ( D in that earlier screenie ).

It should very easy - just want to be certain you know exactly which you want to keep .

Thanks for all the help everyone, i took what everyone said and applied that. I ended somehow figuring it out, i renamed my current OS "ultimate" and deleted the old one. Now when i boot up, i no longer see that option screen to choose an OS.
