Opinion of some AV software officially changed

One infection by certain rogue AV's and trojans can account for many infections found by Malwarebytes mainly where the rogue will hijack the image execution options settings in the registry which some rogues manipulate to stop other security apps from starting.

For Jacee about TFC

If I don't receive a reply, I'll open a new thread. Drawbacks I find with TFC are that it empties the recycle bin, and always reboots even when zero info has been removed, a nuisance. Perhaps there are options I'm unaware of. With CCleaner, I can select what areas I want cleaned.

Don't mean to step on anyone's toes by jumping in but from reading the 2nd paragraph, TFC requires a reboot immediately after running and apparently without regard to whether or not any temp files were deleted.

For Jacee about TFC

Yes, that is what I said. It's a nuisance. If there is no way to select what files to delete, that is another drawback. Jacee recommended TFC as a better program than CCleaner, as I recall. This was intended to be my opinion that TFC lacks CC's options and ease of use. Not a big deal, just an observation. (If there is a way to select the kind of files to be deleted, it might change my opinion, so I asked if there was.)

Hi all
Not wishing to start flaming but it actually SAYS something for Windows that it can keep running even with 167 infections !!!!.

I think it would be quite an achievement to actually GET 167 infections even if running with NO AV whatosever and STILL have an operating Windows system !!!!.

I for one would NEVER EVER trust an infected computer that had been "cleansed". The logic is simple --we all know that computers can never be 100% secure (at least until we can get Quantum Computers) so why do we think that a "Cleanser" is also 100% effective.

To me the ONLY two solutions are

1) Restore from a CLEAN backup or more drastically
2) Totally re-install the OS.

Anybody who doesn't choose one or other of these alternatives is only asking for future troubles IMO.

OT but equally important --- DO TAKE REGULAR BACKUPS - it will save no end of trouble. To image even a largish W7 installation these days with decent backup software only takes around 35 - 60 mins at the most and you can store the backup on external USB drives etc etc.

Why not run this at night before you go to bed.

The corresponding restore will also only take around 35 - 60 mins .

Similarly keep the OS and your user data (Music, documents, video, still images, photos, office type files - spreadsheets etc) partitions separately - that way you don't lose data in the event of an OS re-install / restore and it's easier when you upgrade HDD's or buy a new machine.

Cheers
jimbo

um, not really sure why this was revived a week ago when it's a year old...But I will say I have certainly never had a problem with TFC needing to restart Windows every single time I run it. Maybe 60% of the time. Also, it works great when working on someone else's computer, since no install is required. Just copy it from a flash drive, run it, then delete it. Doesn't take more than 5 minutes altogether in most cases.
