AV software ThreatFire + MSE

Back then, when i wanted to use Avast, I also looked up threatfire and read something along the lines of integration with other av software.

i installed both, but that was a long time ago. over a long period, i switched to AVG Free, and now MSE.

So now, would Threatfire and MSE be compatible/a wise choice to keep in my computer??

I would do whichever benefits the computer more. (either deleting threatfire or keeping it)

I wouldn't run two AV's as they can conflict and combine to slow down your system.

MSE with Win7 firewall are perfectly optimized for no impact on performance. Avast is nearly as good but bothers the user while MSE disappears and becomes invisible.

The firee 9.0 version of AVG being installed after the MS SE wouldn't see any problems since the SE is geared not to clash with most of the existing av softwares on the market. It tends to be more of a adware/spyware detector then any full av program where one requires the other be uninstalled first before you can install the newer.

The SE installer however works best when any other av program is removed and then put back afterwards. From there it won't clash but may catch what the typical program misses. Before changing av programs here the two never clashed with each other for several months of use. With the new build however a new program that combined av/adware/spyware/rootkit protections along with a working firewall and web filtering! was sought.

(Note the better the web filtering the less likely to see various bugs slip past any protections inplace.)

Threatfire is a behaviour blocker. You should have no problems running it with any anti-virus.

While it shouldn't affect the protection offered (simply because it is a behaviour blocker), since the Symantec acquisition of PC Tools, development of Threatfire has slowed.

A new, smaller team is now working on Threatfire and after months of inactivity, there is a new version being beta tested.

Threatfire can provide extra protection over MSE.

You definitely need more then just the SE. While IE for example has seen improvements with antiphising filtering it still won't block various sites that will dump things on your system. The same is also seen with other browsers since ways have been in use to get around those as well.

With Symantec grabbing Threatfire what would you expect since they have been known for bloatware over the years. That takes time to instill in a new program they acquire!

As far as running that along with the SE the only way to know is by trying both together while the SE was found to be unintrusive compared to the typical dilemna seen when trying to run two of the usual name av programs together. The Windows Defender is on all the time for most systems regardless of what other protections you have installed from 3rd party sources and doesn't see clashes being another MS additive.

(and like many previous MS bug chasers not very effective either! )

One thing found here for sure when installed finding all security areas checked off with green check marks is "Only $$$ for 12 months of protection
(tax inclusive)"

That shows the retail part of that for sure when you see the "recommend you upgrade now" and browser hijack to the buy now page! "kiss off!" GGGrrrrrr...... gimic to sell the other programs. No thanks!

It went on like another AdAware or Spyware Terminator type program looking for tracking cookies and shouldn't pose a problem with any av program to start with.
