Opinions on this desktop.

As a sociable person I was offered to go on holiday (paid for) or a new car (paid for), which I would of both appreciated very much, but as a nerd/geek/whatever I opted to choose a new PC,
I have had decent PCs in the past but not this 'beastly'.. ever.

What I will be doing with this:
Video Editing/Media Productions (for business)
Record PC Tutorials
Record PC Games
Website Develop
And general use
and more, can't think of anything as of yet.

These are the specifications:

Intel® Core™ i5-3330 3.0GHz Quad Core Processor
FREE McAfee Antivirus Plus Software (I don't want this - removing it)
16Gb DDR3 RAM
2Tb hard drive
DVD RW drive
Nvidia 1GB GTX650 Dedicated Gaming Graphics Card
Microsoft Windows 8 (Uninstalling and using Win7 instead)
6 x USB 2.0 Ports (2 front, 4 rear);1 x DVI Port; 1 x VGA Port; 1 x HDMI Port
HD Audio on board
Stylish finger print resistance case
Wireless b/g/n network card

In the years of experienced, personal and professionally, I understand this is too much for what I am wanting to do mainly, however, do you think it's decent enough to run FPS or any other general PC games on high graphics settings?

I would have taken a new car, but....

I don't think the GTX650 will run many newer type games at high settings but would do well with all of your other needs.

I agree on upgrading it to w7 and dumping McAfee.

I was considering it but my tech is more important then transport as I don't mind public transport in my city,

That was my concern, I've had a quick Google and it seems like it's a cheap GC imo, easily upgradable - do you suggest any reliable, inexpensive, quality GC out there?

As for Windows 8, I know there are a lot of H8ter's here, but have you actually tried Windows 8? It's certainly faster and performs better than Windows 7. I just built a new rig around Windows 8.1 and haven't looked back. See my system specs. I know everybody has their opinions so this is mine, and it's based it on actual long term usage.

Anyway good luck with you new rig.

I have used Win8 and I'm not keen on the tiles, I prefer win7 and always have, not sure why.

Neither am I; which is why I boot to desktop, which is now an option under Windows 8.1

I have a pretty tidy desktop, I only have the Recycle Bin on my desktop, others are on my taskbar as I frequently use them.

I also would have taken the car, a pc you can build on your own, and a trip you can save for on your own, but a car. :shock:

Compared to my current PC, it's a beast.
Upgrades will be starting a few weeks after I receive the PC.

The reason why I didn't take the car is because of not doing any lessons as of yet, but I can easily pay for it myself gradually.

I would have opted for the car too. But, it's your choice. I agree with Sygnus21 on the PC. I don't know how much of some of the activities you mentioned you will do. It also appears you are getting an OEM PC. OEMs typically use the cheapest parts they can with no thought of quality or upgradeability. Video encoding and screen capture are going to be more than that CPU and GPU can do efficiently. It makes little sense to buy a graphics card and plan on upgrading to a new one in the near future. Plus the fact that with an OEM Power supply, you will find you have to have a new PSU in order to get a better GPU. If you do get a good top of the line GPU, that CPU will throttle it.

Britton30's idea of looking at the Benchmark thread is an excellent idea. But, when you do, also look at the system specs of the people who are on the leaderboards. A computer doing intensive work, works as a unit. All the parts have to work together. My suggestion would be to pick the parts yourself and build it yourself. There are no shortage of You Tube Videos of exactly how to do it. Or, pay someone you trust to build it for you. Almost without exception, every PC you see on the Benchmark thread are self built machines. That's my .02 cents.

Steve is right. Video encoding is going to be slow. I do most of my encoding on an i7 with 8GB of RAM but sometimes I use my i5 system with 6GB of RAM - big difference. Takes 3 times as long. Both systems have SSDs.

As mentioned almost all OEM's will paint you into some kind off upgrade corner making change later difficult, expensive or impossible. Once you build a rig of your own you'll never go back to standard off the shelf product again.

I don't think it is ha but I'm sticking with my pick even though everyone would of went for the car - just to note, I was going to get a £800 car which isn't bad at all however as explained, I ain't insured nor took ANY lessons at all but yeah, I'm sure I get my car by the time I turn 22 as I work aswell.

Anyways, I enjoy building them and looking around in PCs to be fair, I don't mind the 'plug n play' - and I never thought of the negatives as it may be difficult to upgrade however, I am sure I will find a way.

And, I kind of want the fact that I will always be better, it may be expensive however you get what you're paid for. As I am in the media and music business (video productions, mastering etc..) I would want a powerful PC and I am only going to purchase a more powerful desktop in the near future as money is rolling in from the business now and we are planning a office and studio move by late 2014 which will have the more powerful PC (one after the one I am getting) to go in the office as I will be there more often.

I also have a personal business as on top of the media and music seen, fixing computers locally, so the office will allow me to fix PCs and Laptops, not that's relevant.
