Hi all, hope you can help me :o

A family member bought an E Machines E529 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium pre installed. The laptop was bought off the shelf at a discounted rate so doesn't come with any CD/DVDs.

They gave us the user name and password, I logged on fine to the administrator account and then changed the name and password no problem, there was another user account called 'Kiosk' but I didn't bother deleting this or make any changes. However when I turned the laptop off and back on the log on screen only gives me the 'Kiosk' user account and other users, tried other user, entered the name and password but it cannot find any of the accounts (old or new) and now I cant log onto the computer any more. I downloaded an ISO image and tried to boot it from DVD which would apparently let me view all the accounts and change passwords but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Is there any other way around it or would it work if I bought W7 and would I be able to boot the computer and set up new accounts that way?

Thanks for any response

They should have done a Sysprep on the machine before they sold it, this would have come up as the first use and asked your input for username and password, location, etc.

Don't buy another copy of Windows when you've already got a product key that you can use, as this tutorial explains.

Hello Interista,

Mike

Yeah I've tried safe mode but it keeps going back to the same log on screen after a little while, although I haven't tried safe mode networking and the other safe mode as I thought it would be the same result

thanks

I was looking through the tutorials that seavixen32 gave me links to and I was struggling how to add the windows installation on a dvd/usb but then I a googled for the installation dvd and was someone had a similar problem and had a way to the do a reinstall with out the dvd. I had to press alt+f10 after turning on the laptop and it gave me an option to do a clean reinstall or repair.

I did a clean reinstall as the laptop was new and there was no files I needed to keep anyway.

You're very welcome.

Pleased to hear your system is up and running again.
Thank you very much
