Outlook 2003 and Win 7

I'm going to take another shot at this. I can't seem to get my Outlook 2003 to open a mail link from within a message. I clink on '[email protected]' and it opens a 'Locate Link Browser' box. I'll stress here that I am not having any problem opening web links in the same email messages, only email addresses. Anyone have a solution to this?

It could be something to do with the MAILTO protocol. Try this:

1. In Start, start typing 'Default Programs', then click on Default Programs when it appears in the results list.
   (Alternatively, find it in Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs).
2. Click on 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program'
3. Scroll to the bottom and you should find a Protocols group. In there should be one called MAILTO.
4. Double-click on the MAILTO item and select Outlook 2003 from the programs list it gives you. If Outlook isn't there, you might have to go looking for it in your Program Files folder (I'm not certain on the path, but it should be easy to find).
5. Click OK to select Outlook, then Close to exit the file types screen.

Try an email link again now. That's the only idea I can think of right now, I'm afraid...

After an extensive search I found that virtually all solutions are for web links, not email links.

However, I did finally find the following thread, which does appear to address the issue in its' most recent post:

SOLUTION:
navigate to start menu and select 'default programmes' then select 'set programme access and computer defaults' once in this screen you will see choose a cionfiguration, select 'microsoft windows' your web browser should say internet explorer and e-mail programme should say 'use my current e-mail programme' click ok and this will resolve the issue. please be aware that the configuration will revert back to custom configuration. not sure why but the fix still works

Thanks Guys. CreepinJesus, I actually don't show Mailto in the Protocols group. Irene, nope, it's already set that way. I'm starting to suspect a bad installation of outlook 2003 and may try to reinstall it. Or, god forbid, upgrade to 2007 or beyond.

Definitely no MAILTO in there? That could be the problem. Have you tried a repair install of Outlook/Office?
