Outlook 2010 error message "This data file has not been configured"

Dear Irene and Golden, Thank you both for your help. I think the /cleanprofile switch looks like the one that might solve this problem. Unfortunately, this switch does not work with Outlook 2010. Do you have any other suggestions?

Furthermore, I recently lost part of my sent mails (which are very important for my work) which I moved from the Sent Items folder to another folder to keep the file size from not getting too large with Sent Items. But all of a sudden, the file just dissappeared. I ran the /resetfolders but nothing happened. Do you have any other suggestions?

Frankly, this Outlook program is taking too much of my time. It seems that the program still has bugs but isn't Microsoft doing anything about this? Do they have another service pack in the works to fix these bugs? How do I find out what service pack I have now? And what should be the current one?

I do understand about the registry. But I have no way getting around it. If I don't run it from time to time I don't see any of my sent mails. This seems to fix it. But I am uncomfortable about tinkering with it. But so far I haven't got an alternative.

How did you input the /cleanprofile command?

Maybe reading the instruction in the following link will help (Outlook 2010 is Office14 not Office11 as used in the link):
Using Microsoft Outlook’s Command line switches | Outlook Daily Tips

/profile profilename

Loads the specified profile. If your profile name contains a space, enclose the profile name in quotation marks.
This switch is useful when there are multiple users of a Windows logon and each has their own Outlook profile. Create desktop shortcuts to load a specific profile – use the following command line in the shortcut, replacing my name with your profile name:
“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\Outlook.exe” /profile “username”

Thank you for your reply. I actually used Office 14. I input the command per below:

“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\Outlook.exe” /cleanprofile

I looked up the switches and found that the /cleanprofile does not come with Outlook 2010. I looked, but couldnot find any particular switch that might help clean up the profile. So I'm kind of stuck here! Do you have any thoughts on this?

Dear Irene and Golden,

Do you have any idea how I could resolve this problem? If I don't clean up these error messages then about every 3 days I would stop seeing copies of my send mails, which are important to me. Then I would have to run the "Registry Booster" to clean up and that would solve the problem. But I don't want to use this program, as I think it will cause more problems later.

Does Microsoft provide any help with this?

Hi Helen,

I'm all out of suggestions unfortunately. Have you considered uninstalling and reinstalling Office, or Outlook, altogether, if you haven't already tried that?

This is puzzling since I have never encountered this issue. I'm still not convinced the registry cleaner is not playing foul with your system................I wonder if you mail issue is a consequence of changes to your registry.

This registry cleaner appears to be solving the problem....I wonder if its not exaberrating it too

Hi Guys,
I see that this discussion is fairly old, but I haven't found anything similar on other forums.
Has there been any resolution to the problem from Microsoft? I do *some* IT at work on about 20 laptops. I have run into this problem several times on multiple machines before, but can't find any solutions short of uninstall / reinstall.
I'd love to know if there are any conclusions to the discussion here...
