Outlook 2016 / imap / deleted items are being purged

My wife is using 2016 with 2 imap folders. She uses her deleted items folder as a place to save emails. The problem is that O2016 is purging her deleted items.
1. How can I get it to stop doing this?
2. Is there a way to recover the emails?

I have gone to the account settings for each account /more settings / advanced and unchecked Purge when switching files online.

I have a feeling that this is a new development. This was happening a while ago and, somehow?!?, I managed to get outlook to stop purging the deleted emails.

Please no advice about not using the deleted folder as a place to save emails.

I am using Outlook 2013, which is, I think very similar to Outlook 2016. Open File, then Options & in the Advanced Settings, select Auto Archive Settings & check that Permanently Delete Old Items is not checked.

I know you said the you don't want advice about not using another folder to save emails, but unless your wife is prepared to change her ways this will very likely keep happening. Using the Deleted Items folder to store saved emails is similar to storing food you wish to save, in the garbage can.

As far as know there is no way to recover those deleted emails.

All she has to do is set up a folder in Outlook 2016 called, Saved emails, & then just drag any email she wants to save into that folder.
