Outlook Connector only works for a day?!

Hey all,

I recently posted about a problem I was having with Outlook Connector, thinking I'd broken it after initially installing it successfully. So, after removing and reinstalling it, I was delighted when it worked fine all over again. Both my Hotmail and Outlook Pop3 accounts were syncronising in both places and in turn on my Windows phone.

Now 2 days later and having altered nothing, my hotmail emails are only being delivered to Hotmail and my Pop3 account emails only to my Outlook! And subsequently my phone is only syncing to Hotmail!

What's going on?! I've not touched anything but something's changed and not working how I need it!! Is this a common bug? I seem to recall reading something somewhere about Connector only working for a day?!

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Hi, welcome to the forums

There is an update for the Outlook Social Connector which is KB2441641. Problem is there's no help or support for that KB no on the microsoft web pages.

My guess is that after you've installed the OSC, Windows is installing the update and that could be causing the issue. You may want to try the following...

1, Uninstall the OSC
2, Re-install OSC
3, Run Windows Update and choose to hide the update for OSC

Now it's a waiting game to see if the OSC continues to work.

Wow, thanks so much for your immediate reply!

My confession is that I don't have Windows Updates turned on - is this a critically poor move on my half?! So presumably the update you mentioned isn't the problem? Though it does seem that I did install updates last on 16/12/2010, so perhaps the update was available before then and has, subsequently been installed in any case? Am I able to check if it's been installed?

Outlook is now also having a problem send/receiving the Hotmail account, reporting these errors...

There was an error synchronizing your folder hierarchy. Error : 8004103a.
Error: 5102. Server. Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown..

And just to reiterate, I really haven't changed anything since the initially successful installation!

I only have WU set to notify so I choose when/what to download...

1 thing you could try is to export your personal info and uninstall outlook and try a re-install of it. You can then import the old data. The only thing with that is the error may re-occur. If you have no data you need to keep then you could just uninstall and re-install Outlook.

To check your installed updates click rb: Control Panel > Programs > 'View installed updates'
