Outlook express dissapeared

Hi,
I have just upgraded to Windows 7 and my Outlook Express has disappeared. I desperately need this as I rely on it for the “Tasks” function rather than the email capabilities.
Does Windows Mail replace Outlook Express? If not How do I get Outlook Express back?
There is no facility to download the latest version of Outlook Express as it says that it comes with Windows 7.
I must have it on my system as I tried downloading version 6 which downloaded OK but when I tried to install it, I got a message that it couldn’t be installed as there is a later version on my system, so it’s there somewhere!
Your assistance would be appreciated.

OE is history. No longer supported or supplied by MS. There may be some old copies around, but they may have many problems, like spyware or worse. Windows Live mail is supported by MS. There are many other free email clients, that you can use.
Outlook can be purchased (this is not OE, but better)

Thank you Richard, that was quick, I didn't know that OE was history!
As I mentioned, I didn't use OE as an email providor, I use Thunderbird, but I found the "Tasks" facility very useful. Can you recomend an equivalent program that has a reminder facility. There seem to be plenty of diary programs but none that have reminder facility.

Outlook Express "died" with XP - it was replaced by Windows Mail in Vista, in 2006. Outlook Express is still supported on XP (until XP EOLs in 2014), but no new Windows OS will have it (and even Windows Mail, that shipped with Vista, was removed in Win7 in favor of Windows Live Mail from the Live Essentials suite).

Since most people (I speak in generalities) skipped Vista, unless you were aware of this fact in 2006 I'm not surprised you missed it. As Richard mentioned, you can get Windows Live Mail (from the Live Essentials suite) to replace Outlook Express on Windows 7. Microsoft has a site on how to migrate your data from OE to WLM as well.

Windows Live Mail also has an integrated "cloud" based calendar which you can enter your to-dos. Beauty of this method is that since its online you can view it anywhere and if you need to format, itl return.

Do you have a smart phone? I used to put tasks in Outlook and OE, but now that I have a Droid, it's kind of pointless, since I now have my tasks with me at all times, there are even some GPS based task apps. If not WLM does have reminders in it's calendar.
