Outlook isn't download all of my email

I'm using Outlook 2016 32-bit to connect to gmail using POP. If Thunderbird is right, I have about 800,000 emails in my gmail account. Outlook only downloaded 1,913 of them (slowly, I might add) and then stopped. What it downloaded includes apparently the oldest emails in my account (from 2004-2006), plus one email from 12/16/2016. It also doesn't show me how many I have total like Thunderbird does. And none of my subfolders show up.

As I was writing this it started downloading again and download about a hundred more (more quickly this time) and then stopped again..

How can I make it not keep stopping for long periods of time?

How can I make it download faster?

How can I make it show how many messages I have total or how many it has to download?

How can I make it create local subfolders to match my subfolders in gmail like Thunderbird does?

If you are so familiar with Thunderbird & seem to prefer it, why are you using Outlook 2016?.

Outlook seems like a more professionally-made program. I recently bought Office 2016 so I want to use Outlook instead. Also, Thunderbird has this strange problem where apparently every time I run it it tries to download some folder called "All Mail", which doesn't show up in the gmail web interface, and has over 800,000 messages in it. The problem is I think it starts over from the beginning every time I run it.

For Gmail, there are special program to download all emails directly to your computer.

I would say it use direct method instead of going thru standard that is viewing.
As what i meant is that when you open the gmail, you are reading as active, not on your computer.

I did use that program &or application, and save all the messages to a file.
In this way, you can do the same and export to Outlook.

Do note that there are 2 type of Outlook and Outlook Express (lite version).

I am not sure i can find that application, as i forgotten where is all my downloaded messages on which HDD(s).

Do google for download and save to your gmail messages to your computer.

I tried IMAP first, and it downloaded really slowly. So I deleted that profile and made one that uses POP instead, hoping it would be faster. It wasn't. I never bothered to go back to IMAP.
