Outlook "Startup" change grayed out

My old MS Outlook 7 starts on a calendar, but I need it to begin on Contacts. So went onto Tools/Options, Other/ Advanced, and saw the word "Calendar" for "Startup screen" That, though, was grayed out, and I can't change it to "Contacts" (or anything else). Any way I can get it to brighten??

What version of Outlook are you using.

Should've mentioned it's Outlook 7. Probably should upgrade, but afraid of losing contacts etc. etc. It's a complex program with all kinds of hidden files.

Are you referring to Outlook 2007. From what I have been able to find out there was never a version of Outlook referred to just as 7. Is it part of Office 2007.

Yes, Outlook 2007. Shoulda been more specific, but two weeks ago, when Windows 10 crashed and I had to deal with the Windows "We-will-call-you-back-in 347-minutes-or-more" Support team, I've been less fastidious than I should be. And back to setting up Windows 7. (Wishing I could return to XP)

Anyhow yes, Outlook 2007 it is.

From what you have said, it seems that when Windows 10 crashed, you have decided to reinstall Windows 7 again, am I right?. If so have you reinstalled Outlook again as well.

Giving up on Microsoft, I went to my terrific local computer repairshop. When they installed Word, Outlook came along with it. But since all my original contact were listed, they obviously took it off my external hard disc.

So is it all fixed up now?.

Yes, except for minor problems, such as the having the Startup view from Outlook grayed out.
