Overclocking an AMD 5770

Will I actually gain anything out of overclocking an AMD 5770? What's the easiest, most trouble-free way of doing it? I'm thinking AMD overdrive in CCC and letting it automatically detect my settings.

Not sure if it helps but I can turn my fans on my case (Antec 900) up high, if that may help with heat. I've also overclocked my CPU from 3.0ghz --> 3.4ghz and it runs fine so far.

Not really..if you into benching your video cards then yes. I don't think overclocking your video card acheives a lot in real life use.

BTW if your CPU is aircooled then having your case fans running as fast (as you can live with )..your internal case temp will have a detrimental effect (not life threatening lol) on your CPU cooling.

I overclock every CPU I get and for me heat is an enemy so keeping your case cool as you can is only good if your aircooling your CPU.

I'd disagree to some extent.

Yes, at best you'll only get several more frames when you overclocking but every little bit counts; if you're using an onboard/in-game FPS counter like Fraps then you can reap the benefits of your overclock. As for using auto-tune in CCC, it isn't very time effective. You can find the upper limit for both the core and memory clocks faster by doing it in incremental steps. For instance you start off with a 10MHz OC for the core clock, test the clocks in CCC and then run Furmark for at least fifteen minutes. Rinse and repeat until you've hit a wall...and you'll know when that's happened.Then start clocking the memory higher and doing the same. The true benchmark will be your games, should anything stop responding just dial back the clocks ( one at a time) in 5-10MHz steps until it's stabilized.

You'd also see on average around a 20MH/s increase in Bitcoin mining, if that's your thing.

Follow Terronium's instructions and you'll get a good overclock. Here's some basic overclocks for reference. Also, trying using MSI Afterburner to overclock, it works better than CCC as you gain voltage control, but if you burn up your card, don't go crying to the warranty people, as they won't help.

960MHz @ 1.185v
1000MHz @ 1.200V
1050MHz @ 1.245v
1070MHz @ 1.275v

PS: The 1050 and above clocks will probably require some form of water cooling or better.

Voltage controls on video cards barely work. Raising a GPU's core voltage from 1.1v to 1.4v in its BIOS may (if you're lucky) boost its voltage to 1.12v or so in reality. To seriously overclock a video card, you generally have to voltmod it.

If remember correctly I don't think my XFX HD 5770 had any voltages options.
