Sapphire AMD 5770 Vapor X issues

My systems specs are:

Intel i5 750 CPU
4Gb RAM
Sapphire AMD 5770 VApor X Graphics Card
Gigabyte GAp55M UD2 motherboard (micro-ATX)
500gig Seagate BArracuda HD
Samsung DVD drive
750W power supply
With Windows 7 64bit.

The issue, which appears to be fairly common is, often when I have the computer idle, or I try watching something on media player, or listening to music or surfing the web with firefox the computer might glitch, or freeze and then go toa coloured screen and black or to a black screen. It's been twice I've had the BSOD, a few times it's actually managed to reset and three or four times I've had the bubble appear which says "'Display driver AMD blah blah stopped responding and was recovered."

I've played games for hours with no issues, even online with other players.

What I have done is checked the CPU temps, checks for overheating and such, tried a clean install of Windows 7. Cleaned the hard drive twice. I've removed the drivers several times with drivers from AMD and from the Sapphire site. As I type this I'm running a test for RAM and so far no errors. Any suggestions as to what's going on and how to fix it?

hm. what driver set are you using? also is the card getting enough cooling? sometimes that problem happens when it overheats, you can check it with something like the hwmonitor here

Yeah that's something I've seen. It's nice to know now that a bunch of my components typically don't like each other all too much. The focus here being the Card.

I'll run that temp thing I guess. As for the driver set, do you mean the version? It's 10.1 straight off the ATI website. I have a cooler master HAF 922 mid tower case, as far as cooling going it's pretty good. Haven't had any problems with the other components as far as I can see.

hm did you try the 9.12 drivers?

Well I tried the 9.12 version and also followed what AMD sent back to me after I sent them an email. So... It can't be the drivers.

And spent the last few hours reinstalling drivers as they instructed again and again.
