Hello.

So recently i posted having a problem with installing and running windows 7. It seems the crashes were cause by manually tuning my processor. I set it on auto in my BIOS, and everything runs quite smoothly. However, in windows XP, i had the ability to clock up to 2.55GHz, and with windows 7, it wont allow me to change the default speed of 2.2GHz.

I was wondering what may be causing this. i have checked core temps and nothing is exceeding 30-35 degrees Celsius. Any one got any advice?

Have you checked to see if there are any updates for your motherboard or bios?

Overclocking has become a science that should not be attempted by those who do not know exactly what they are doing...You saw what happened the last time you attempted to overclock your cpu... If you want to learn how to overclock, get a spare machine that you can afford to lose... never learn on your main machine...

I can and will second that. Do a LOT of researching on those dedicated places for overclockers. my 2 cents worth. Fabe Woops not through maximum cooling a must!

The most likely reason, something is set in bios to lock manual adjustments.
Such as a overclock auto setting.
Depending what type of board/bios you have. It may need to be set to manual to make any adjustments.

I also agree with Tews & theFabe

Also:
Allowing the board to Auto overclock, or AUTO set voltages etc when OC'ing is a really BAD idea IMO, as they tend to overvolt more than is actually needed. just because its easier doesn't mean it's better.

Overclocking on stock cooling solution = REALLY BAD IDEA

Idle Temps are often inaccurate, and mean very little. Load Temps are what you should be looking at and concerned with. As well as the Chipset, PWM area

I agree completely 100%:p
Get an aftermarket cpu cooler, trust me i know ;) seen people who OC'd on stock = failure due to excessive heating

All of the above posts are excellent reasons why you need to do a LOT of researching before making any attempts to OC your rig...

I've seen a lot of CPU key rings and worn around necks as bling. Better ways to acuire these things.
