Hi all
Just a query here to people running (or wanting to run) their own web servers.

I've use a Linux LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL Php) type of server for a while but with a Virtual Windows Server 2008 I'm actually thinking of "Retiring" my old Linux server -- I need the box just for a simple Audio streamer so I won't be using it as part of my Home network for "general purposes" such as email, file and print serving.

I don't like IIS as it seems overtly complex -- in any case I've got to the stage where I can write MySQL queries without even thinking about it and MySQL is also comapatble with Windows.

I've seen the Windows equivalent of LAMP -- WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL and Php)

Anybody tried this combination -- Php should be easy enough to get working on Windows. MySQL worksd fine but waht's the Apache server like compared with its Linux counterpart.

From the small testing I've done with Windows 2008 Server -- seems FINALLY MS is fighting back into the server market. Seems a great product and reasonably compatable with W7 as well.

Feedback appreciated -- especially the differences in setting up an Apache server on Windows compared to Linux.

Running a Virtual server is fine BTW if you have enough hardware to do it -Got 16GB RAM on this machine witrh a decent QUAD processor as well.

Cheers
jimbo

Although the original post is old I will reply to it to help anyone else on the same question. I am running IIS7 on my local, it is also running PHP as PHP can be added to the web server. I am also running MySql and MS SQL. I did this for compatibility reasons to learn programming in both PHP and ASP.NET. WAMP is a very good web server but it does not run ASP.NET natively being an APACHE clone that runs on windows. The same is said for IIS as PHP is an add on for the web server.
