Hello,

I turned my computer in for about 10work days ago to the technician.
Today i got a call from the tech guy and he told me that the error was on the motherboard and it needed to be replaced.
They said that they dont have the motherboard that i had and they cannot order it for some reason. But he offered me Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 Rev 1.3 which he said it should be as good as Asus P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3.
But i was skeptical so i said i have to look it up because something sound fishy with all this... so i said i need to check it up before i can give answer.
The tech guy told me its ok, you tell me which z68 motherboard you want and i look if i can hook it up for you and what the price will be.

Now i have been looking nonstop for a motherboard that can get compared to it and i have a really hard time finding one that is as good as the one i had, the one he told me was about half the price i payed for mine not equally or even close to it.

So now i need the help, what would you guys switch to? and why? and if not z68 then which motherboard that is around same price tag?
Not that the price tag should matter but obviously if i pay more money then i should get more slots/utility or better quality and so on.

//Azer
ps. sorry for my bad english, i hope it is understandable.

If you are only looking at price, to get a more expensive Z68 board you will probably have to go with the Maximus Extreme IV-Z. However, the V-Pro/Gen 3 is the same board without a few of the amenities and cheaper too.

ok, the ones i can pick from i would bet... is the ones from their own site which is Socket 1155 - För Intel-processor - Moderkort - Datorkomponenter - Inet.se, when i checked for the cheepest place to buy the MB i had was around 1789kr(about 200euro) which is at another company. I'm going to see if i pick someother MB then z68 and pay abit more since they didnt/dont have or could order the one i wanted.
This look kinda nice Asus MAXIMUS V GENE - Inet.se
but yet not sure what is optimal to switch from the one i had...
Ahh... this is giving me a headache...:banghead:

Just so you know, it is supposed to be a nice board, but the Genie is an Matx board if that makes a difference to you.

I have a P8Z68 Deluxe V1. I don't know if this Gen 1 and what the current Gen 3 difference is - anybody know? Anyway, I might have been able to save $100 on a lower ASUS board and been happy.

PS: It was my first full build so I am a Novice.

Well, I have trouble with the site getting rid of the add. But, I owned the Asus Z68 V-pro/Gen3 and it worked well and is the same board as yours with a few amenities left off. But still the same as yours. But the Asrock z68 Professional/gen 3 is supposed to be a good board. I sold my rig with the V-Pro and am using an Asrock P67 board. It has been through 3 or 4 CPUs and numerous sets of ram and is still going strong. That's really the best I can tell you. Finding a good board is not easy these days, it's kind of like the luck of the draw.

MJF, I think the GEN 3 boards are supposed to be able to run Ivy Bridge and would have pcie 3.0 with an Ivy Bridge. And I honestly think the Gen 3 boards allow them to correct some mistakes they made on the gen 1 boards. Not that they always do it.

I have a P8Z68 Deluxe V1. I don't know if this Gen 1 and what the current Gen 3 difference is - anybody know?

Basically, when the Intel chipset present on the first SandyBridge/Socket 1155 mobo's was released, it contained a bug where it was possible for the SATA ports present on the board to fail.

Because of the bug, they were recalled and the vendors released new revisioned mobo's with 'Gen3' added, as in they no longer had the bug.

A link to one of the many articles regarding this bug here

z68 is for SandyBridge processors which with a BIOS upgrade can run IvyBridge processors.
z77 is intended for IvyBridge processors and contain PCIE 3.0 slots but they can run SandyBridge too.

as far as I know, the 'z' or 'p' or 'h' is to be able to address the iGPU on the SB/IB.
One has slots on the motherboard for VGA/DVI, the other doesn't. If you're using a dGPU (basically any videocard other than the built-in one on the processor), it's all equal.

Would you say that z68 deluxe and the z77 deluxe would be equal if you use other then the built-in ?
I think both have pcie 3,0 and both can run same processors.
Imo they shouldve told me that they would like to switch to z77 since they didnt have the z68 or am i wrong?

Since you know what the issue is, why not open your search to any online retailer, buy the board of choice you want, and replace it yourself? You should be able to save a lot of money that way.

I would do that but i got warranty and they were going to replace the motherboard with something equivalent to the one i had since they didnt have the z68 deluxe motherboard, so he was trying to rip me off by giving me the earlier mentioned gigabyte motherboard

so he was trying to rip me off by giving me the earlier mentioned gigabyte motherboard

One more reason to build your next one yourself. You have total control over what goes in it...at the time of build and during later upgrades.

Based on your earlier link, you have plenty of choices. I can understand being under warranty and letting them replace it.

I did build it my self.. but i got a "bad" deluxe motherboard, that is why they wanted to change it.. but the wierd thing is why they cannot send it to asus.. i bet asus would send them back a new one.. when i asked them why they couldnt do that they said, because we dont sell that motherboard anymore? but what does that have to do with anything? I said but cant you guys order a new one? still same answer "they cannot order something they are not selling anymore"

You are confusing me, to be honest. If you built the PC yourself, then how would you have a system warranty? When I say "build it yourself", I mean not through a store. I mean buy all the parts yourself and assemble it.

Now, if we skip past that confusion, have you tried going through Asus directly to see if they can replace the board?
