Solved Paragon Migrate OS to SSD

Try to set iator to 3 and iastorv to 0.
reboot but don't change anything in BIOS. Does it boot?
If so.. post screenshot of "device management" again. Is "IDE ATA/ATAPI-controllers" in list, if so expand that branch

I booted fine with msachi at 3 isator at 3 and iastorv to 0

No IDE ATA/ATapi controllers showing just this in my attachment.

why set msahci to 3? set it to 0. I'll gonna search google for what problem can be

I'm sorry for the type error. I had msachi set to 0. I'm tired from working this week so I did check it just now and it's set to 0.

I googled too and didn't see anything that stood out but I'm no tech. I did see stuff about the Intel contoller and DM list. I came out with the IDE/ATA controllers won't show if their not used. Intel has a program to contoller all of them?? Also I read leave it on Raid as Intel has Aschi built in.. very confusing to say the least and my biggest fear when migrating over that I'd have issues. At least it's working and I can feel the speed change over HDD.

Don't know if it's Intel or Dell that is causing this jam or in fact anything can be done about it.

From internet site:
Go into the registry using regedit and change each of the "start" values in the registry keys below from 3 to 0 and this will allow you to change between the different modes by just changing the option in your bios each time you reboot.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\pciide =>irrelevant in your case

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\msahci =>maybe needed, but setting to 0 doesn't hurt

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\iaStorV =>maybe not needed, but setting to 0 doesn't hurt

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\iaStor =>maybe not needed, but setting to 0 doesn't hurt

No you can switch in bios from IDE to AHCI without problems. Switching from RAID is another issue

system also boots fine if iastor, iastorv and msahci are set to 3 (and bios sill on sata raid)?
sorry for not give you solution yet.

If not booting at all do "system restore"

Don't worry about not solving this... I'll try setting all to 3 later today.. but I installed my HDD I migrated from with OEM values.. This is what the values are from when new from Dell,etc. I never fooled with them before this migrate.

OK were I'm at the latest here is I tried..the above regedit values..from post #64. Restarted and it booted to destop. I then restarted and entered bios to change to aschi and it did the same as all other attempts.
It seems changeing the regedit doesn't do much to stop rebooting in Raid anyway.
On a side note I notice in the black start up screen it lists my drives as such..0 ssd 1 WD (which is my storage only and no systems should be on there.) I tried it with DVD in place of the storage drive but no boot either. So I'm leaving the WD storage in for now.
This is what I found about Dells controller at Microsoft community.. I don't want to reinstall too much to do over for me. But too bad there isn't a workaround.
Changing Raid to ASCHI "Probably the only way to fix it would be to reinstall Windows in AHCI mode. The boot drive no longer has the proper drivers when you change the drive mode in BIOS after Windows is installed. You could try a start up repair as well but I don't know that it would succeed since it may not even see the drive(s) at start up.
Richard has the right idea about your problem. Windows may be using different storage drivers for RAID and AHCI modes. Windows will try to load the RAID driver but the driver will not match the AHCI mode and bug check with famous 0x7B (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE). Start up repair will not work because it will not know which driver to load.
The easiest way is to re install the OS with AHCI mode."

Best thing to do (which should fix it).

Put msahci, iastor, iastorv and atapi to start=0. Not all needed but system boots fine. If so:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/292068-make-windows-7-bootable-after-motherboard-swap.html
Burn the disk and read carefully what to do.

Put BIOS SATA setting to AHCI mode, Boot from the DVD described in that tutorial. Just a few clicks and you're done. Post results

In reply to post #69 I just tried it and it failed. I will try the above..

thanks..

We are sure now it only uses iastor (and iastorA and iastoF) .... all related to intel drivers.
system boots fine if msahci, iatsorv and atapi to 3 (so not started).

I did the Paragon p2p Adjust os and that did the trick. On restart I get a message on a black screen saying "Setup is preparing for first time use" then it loads to desktop. Samsungs Majcian recognizes now that it's in ACHI mode.
Question will this affect my esata port or any other ports?? I attached the the benchmark tests of before and after Raid. 4:42 was this moring. 1:30 was after ACHI was turned on. Can you let me know if which way or the other would be better??

I think the driver that was listed in device manager\storage controllers ->RAID driver was what I expected to be in device manager\IDE ATA.....

The raid driver has been uninstalled and replaced by the default microsoft AHCI driver.

I read it on internet it was listed in device manager\storage controllers

I didn't want to upgrade that driver to the standard microsoft one, because I was afraid the driver was gone and may leave the system in a non bootable state. But paragon P2P adjust OS is very clever and does know it's safe.

Problem solved.

Do you have a motherboard chipset driver CD? Maybe you can insert it and run setup or something like that. Maybe it installs the INTEL AHCI driver(?)

Also the benmark tests with and with out achi

You have the correct driver. Compare the two screenshots ... both intel drivers.
"preparing for first time use" should appear only once. Still seeing that message?

Is performance better now or same...or worse?

I was still seeing the message on every restart. Also it wasn't as fast. So I migrated again from original drive with OS to SSD and it cleared the message and runs faster.

But we did the switch to achi and it worked without much disaster at all really.

Very strange the "preparing for first time use" message comes back every time ....never seen that.
RAID or AHCI ... who cares ... never seen any performance gain.... and raid has more options.

So leave it the way it is.

One last question: Why did you buy paragon??
A disk can be cloned by many free sotdware (I told you before).
Only important thing was the aligned... also possible with a lot... maybe all free clone/backup software.
Can also be done with Partitiot Wizard after cloning
