Part 2: Microsoft silently preparing your PC for Win 10

I uninstalled KB3035583 the other day. I searched my entire computer for anything containing "gwx" and this is what I found. I wonder
1. why these items weren't removed when I uninstalled the update, and
2. if I can delete these items myself with no harm to my install.

Looks like anything containing "gwx" is now gone. Good riddance.

And I believe Recommended so far KB3035583 will need to be unhidden every update cycle before a successful update search list will appear
Otherwise I'll see a similar error code like this last go round 8024402c

I still get Windows Updates while keeping KB3035583 hidden.
Maybe i'm not understanding, but i don't see where i need to unhide this KB for Windows Update to work ?

The error code comes up sa one of the possibilities is an a-v or malware blocking something ?
So possibly MSE or mbam or even sas ?

It sort of confirms what I mentioned earlier, just updates to the Windows Update Agent files.

These are the only extra files that get added to my pc:

Wu.upgrade.ps.dll

Windowsupdate.adml

Winsetupui.dll

All the others are just updated versions of existing files.

The issue is not that we do not want Windows 10. The problem is that we do not know if we want it and refuse to be stampeded into it on Microsoft's schedule. Like any product in the market (free or not) we will investigate, evaluate, and decide if it is what we want. It is critical that Microsoft realize that Windows 7 is the gold standard now. In the most part we want new things and are willing to try them to see if they meet our needs and desires.
What we don't want is to be nagged and hornswoggled into them.

Just look at Wolfgang. He has been into computers when they were make holes in punch cards with a pointed stick and a rock. Now he use all kinds of operating sytems, computers, and programs. Doesn't sound like someone that is not willing to try new thing.

Wolfgang is just a example I feel that I can use to display my point.

We don't run from new but we do want new to come with better and are willing to test and try new things.

I'm new to computers. I got started with Windows 98.

I also remember the punch cards. I used to have to file the stupid things. I also used to buff floors around the machines that used them. One bump and everything went nuts (although the machines didn't spew cards like the do in the movies). Technology has come a long way since then.

I never appreciate it when something is rammed down my throat.

Like the Bear, I'm not adverse to new technology as long as it actually benefits me. Part of the benefit has to include being cost effective (not having to replace otherwise perfectly good hardware or rack up a new monthly bill), not require radical changes to my workflow and not require a steep learning curve to realize only a slight gain in benefits.

Hi Jack, the wife and I got a good laugh from your last posting. You are always so right. The first computer I worked on in 1958 ( a Zuse Z11) used paper tape. The punched cards came later when I worked on the IBM/650, 1401 and 7070 in the early 60s.

Thank you folks. You proved my point.

We like new technology and have for decades but we are not lemmings.

Microsoft will not shove us down the technology road but we will follow a good road put in front of us.

I do understand that Microsoft is looking for new customers even if they are counterfeiters. They should not forget the Billion customers they already have that are buying their products and have for decades.
The good point is we Billion will buy Microsoft products in the future if they just put out a product we want.

I'm not quite sure how Microsoft makes money off of a Billion counterfeiters. Maybe a tax wright off.

It's all a numbers game now
Never breaking 15% with 8-8.1 combined is kicking them every step of the way to improve mainly that

Windows 10 will probably do better than 15% but it will take a looong time before they get the W7 numbers. A lot has to happen in the meantime.

Why should I install either KB unless/until I'm interested in upgrading to Windows 10? In other words, are the changes in these "important" patches beneficial to me or to Microsoft? If they're good for me, then what do they do?
How do these patches interact with/enable/support the obvious nagware cruft in KB 3035583?
Will Microsoft never learn that it's best to be straight with its customers up front? This is the kind of crap I would've expected under the previous regime. It's a disservice to those who are working hard to open up the Windows development process.
Transparency is good on the desktop and in the KB.

I agree. I still don't agree with installing the update as suggested on that site. Smells fishy.

This rapid release game is starting to remind me of Jazz CDs. I must have owned 5 different versions of Kind Of Blue. First was the one that said "Digitally Remastered" then a "direct recording" with Gold Leaf on the CD. The "Super Bit Mapping" with 20 bit. Then "Super Bit Mapping" 24 bit. Yes the sound was a bit(no pun intended) better each one to where the regular priced 24 bit SBM release sounded better than the high priced Gold CD. But why did I have to buy it 5 times? That's when I needed "free upgrades." Buying the same music over and over. Not to mention the compilations where everything Miles Davis recorded was selected for CD according to some Permutation Algorithm to see how many CDs could be published from the same several hundred tracks etc..

Excuse me I have to look to see if FF is up to v. 50.x yet(I have autoupdates disabled.)
