A new optional update with the unremarkable name of KB3035583, and the equally unremarkable description - "This update enables additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications when new updates are available to the user" - has arrived in Windows Update for users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1."

Same deal thought update to upgrade win-7 under a new KB = Hide.

I just removed and hid KB2952664 and KB3035583 when they came back when Checking Windows Updates.

Ran Updates again and they both stay hid.

I never installed either of them Jack so if there's any issues I'll know
I expect they will morph into a recommended or important status sooner or later.
It doesn't matter I'll still hide them or if they return I'll just leave them to collect dust in the que.

I see KB...5583 was classified as Recommended not Optional

Microsoft would be a happy little camper if all Windows 7 users would jump to Windows 10.

I got this little itch that Windows 10 is going to be another Windows 8.
Time will tell.

I'm sure 10 will do better than 8
Of course numbers from 8.1 will fall and assimilate to 10
7'ers no telling I see no real reason to upgrade to it on either machine at this point,
Even with an unused win-8 license.

still don't understand why is MS forcing everyone to jump on to W10... whether the product is FREE or Not is out of equation, if they want to discontinue support for W7 let them do so..

btw.. I don't want to jump to w10 not with my current lappy for sure, so do I need to just ignore this update if it comes knocking to me ? If in case it updates automatically, do I just need to uninstall it ?

Changing your windows updates settings and get off automatic will usually help a great deal,
I have mine set to Check for updates but let me decide whether to download and install them,
Check the box to receive recommended updates the same way.

Uninstalling shouldn't be a big deal with recommended or optional updates I've done it many times
Or even hiding the one I caught before I downloaded them. which is the best policy.

But you can always wait a day or two and review here or the windows update section of the forum for feedback on these updates and decide whether you want to download them or hide them.

Good policy most smart people wait a while and make a system image before downloading and installing even Important updates just to be safe
Microsoft has recalled some updates in the past system image just makes the process a lot cleaner to get rid of bad updates

If you installed the update, check to see if it's even working. This THREAD , although drifting, documents a problem so you should check your event log.

I wish Microsoft would quit assuming everyone wants to upgrade to windows 10. Even through it is free, there is a lot factors to decided before you upgrade. I was going to possibly give it a windows 10 a chance, but I just read Microsoft going to be to picky on the driver signing. I really don't like that. Seems like Microsoft makes 1 step forward, then 3 steps backwards (This is an analogy). I wonder if we will see Linux systems at wal-mart and other stores. I didn't have 2952664 installed and I uninstalled 3035583. Both updates are now hidden.

I installed KB3035583 ... for a day. The info link read like a hidden agenda. Within that update a GWXConfigManager.exe wanted online access frequently. Glad I caught your post GEWB, thanks.
