Solved Partitioning a hard drive in Windows 7

I think she said she lost the boot on XP on DISK1 and possibly also DISK2 when the Active flag was removed.

Let's see if she wants a dual-boot scenario or not and which disk has XP on it and which disk has Win 7 on it.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
I have XP on disk 1 and also on disk 2 but they are not windows-managed dual boot. They are Bios-managed dual boot. I have to tap F12 key each time to choose for XP to boot. On disk 0 I have my Windows 7 together with the system reserved partition which is the active partition. I made both disk 1 and 2 inactive in order to not get into conflict since my reserved partition on disk 0 should be the one set to active. Pardon me for not explain it better in my post for help above. Maybe not relevant but disk 1 is on a sata cable and disk 2 is on a IDE cable.
Thanks guys.

I understand. It is wise to boot separate HD OS's via the BIOS rather than Windows dual boot as they remain independent to come and go as you please. But each HD OS needs to remain Active.

Will XP HD's boot if you mark them Active again?

I managed to set DISK 2 active again. It went verry smoothly. XP did boot verry nicely. I suppose DISK 1 won't give me issues if I set it to active one day hopefully. Now I have 2 HD's with OS's on them both set to active. Won't I run into trouble one day?
Any ways, thank to you guys I made my husband happy again.
You are terrific!

If you boot OS's separately via BIOS then each HD with an OS needs to be System Active in DIsk Mgmt in order to boot.

The exception is if you have a System REserved boot partition for Win7, then it must remain active.

Please try marking your DISK1 XP active to make sure it can boot now. Or if you no longer need two XP's, if it isn't marked Active you can delete the OS in Disk Mgmt and repartition the HD for storage or other purposes.
